Hydrostatic drive work on an Axial-Flow 7120, 8120 or 9120 runs through a Bosch - Rexroth closed circuit pump with Electric Displacement Control. Page 546 gives main reliefs at 419 bar (6076 psi) and charge relief at 30 bar (435 psi). Case IH manual 84526978, dated March 2013 and replacing 84163559, prints those figures beside the pump and motor components and the powered rear axle problem solving.
Chasing a hydro or wiring fault with the crop standing and rain on the way is bad enough without guessing at pressures. The book also covers the main gearbox, the 4 speed transmission and differential, both axles and the load sensing hydraulics. It goes on to the header, rotor, cleaning shoe, grain tank unload, wiring schematics and the fault code sections.

Case IH Axial-Flow 7120–9120 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Engine will not crank when the key is turned to Start
Before troubleshooting, the starting system chart on page 2112 wants fully charged batteries with clean, tight connections, fuses F-38 and F-48 serviceable, the transmission in Neutral or Park and the battery switch closed. It lists fuse F-38, key switch S-02, neutral switch S-22, neutral start relay K-23, start relay K-15, 24V start relay K-38 and starter motor M-29, each with its own test procedure.

Page 865 in the hydraulic systems section says the header should not leak down more than one inch of lift cylinder travel per hour. If it does, check these areas in order: lift cylinder line(s), the feeder lift valve (replace O-rings), the load check ball, the lower secondary poppet, then a thermal relief valve leaking externally.

The powered rear axle problem solving chart on page 643 lists these causes: transmission gearing too low (the system works better in a higher gear), incorrectly plumbed main high pressure lines, a weak high pressure relief valve in the hydrostatic pump, excessive case leakage from the wheel motors or selector valve, inadequate charge pressure, and optional flow regulators sticking internally.

The No cooling chart on page 1275 in the cab climate control section lists these causes: A/C Mode switch not on, loss of refrigerant (pressure test), poor air flow through the evaporator, a loose or broken compressor belt, a compressor clutch that will not engage (A/C control relay test), a faulty expansion valve, or a faulty compressor and/or compressor clutch.

What do Case IH Axial-Flow 7120, 8120 and 9120 error codes mean?
Control module codes print like E0001-03 (Control Module CM1, page 2626), module communication codes like D0100-2011 and cluster alarms like A0000. A0000 is Engine Coolant Temperature HIGH Max Engine Power Limited (page 2259). D0100-2011 is an individual module Not Detected or Communication Lost alarm (page 2602). The causes listed for it are loss of module power or ground, or CAN faults such as bad or open CAN HI / CAN LO wiring. The fault code sections open with an index. p. 2602
What does fault code E1745-03 mean on an Axial-Flow 7120?
E1745-03 is Fuel Flow Setpoint too low - Shorted to high source, set by the engine ECU (page 3456). The ECU has picked up either fuel system leakage or a metering unit jammed closed. The metering unit is the high pressure pump regulator solenoid/valve. Listed causes are an inaccurate rail pressure sensor, a defective high pressure pump, metering unit reflux too low, fuel system leakage or the metering unit jammed closed. What are the torque specs for Axial-Flow 20 Series components?
The mechanical transmission table on page 299 gives 150 - 170 Nm (111 - 125 lb ft) for both the nut on the drive shaft and the nut on the input shaft. The shifting disc housing insert is 190 - 210 Nm (140 - 155 lb ft), top cover bolts 45 - 55 Nm (33 - 41 lb ft) and the drain plug 90 - 110 Nm (66 - 81 lb ft). On page 3688 the feeder gearbox mounting bolts M16 x 60 are 174 - 220 Nm (129 - 162 lb ft). Minimum tightening torques and standard hydraulic torque data are in the introduction. p. 299
How much oil do the engine, hydraulics and gearboxes take?
Page 48 lists CASE IH AKCELA NO. 1 ENGINE OIL SAE 15W-40: 25 l (6.6 US gal) for the 7120 Cursor 9L, 32 l (8.5 US gal) for the 8120 10.3L and 35 l (9.25 US gal) for the 9120. The traction gearbox takes 19 l (5.0 US gal) of AKCELA GEAR 135 H EP 80W-90. The rotor gearbox takes 7 l (1.8 US gal). Page 521 gives the total hydraulic and hydrostatic system as approximately 136.5 l (144.2 US qt) without the Powered Rear Axle and approximately 147 l (155.3 US qt) with it. p. 48
