Case IH Patriot 4440 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Machine will not move
Start with the cheap checks. Look at the hydraulic oil level and make sure the park brake switch is OFF. If the brake still holds, run the park brake fails to release test. Next, check the neutral safety switch adjustment and clean or replace clogged suction strainers. Test the hydrostatic pump before you replace it.
Manual Section: Hydrostatic drive: drive circuit troubleshooting p. 325Drive system sluggish or erratic
Make sure the brakes are fully released and the hydraulic oil is topped up. Replace clogged hydraulic filters and set the planetary gear hub oil level. If charge pressure is low, fluctuating or missing, check and adjust the charge relief valve. Test the wheel motors last and replace one only if it fails.
Manual Section: Hydrostatic drive: drive circuit troubleshooting p. 326Hard steering, or slow or no steering response
Check the hydraulic oil level and clean or replace the suction strainer first. If the pressure compensator isn't working, adjust it on the pump. Test the steering cylinder, then repair or replace it. If the steering pump has quit, the manual says to replace it.
Manual Section: Hydraulic systems: cylinder system troubleshooting p. 448Spray system not operating properly
Check the controller setup before you touch any hardware. Open the product tank sump valve all the way, clean the product and boom strainers, and clean plugged or worn nozzles. If none of that brings the system back, the hydraulic gear pump may have failed and needs replacing.

What engine does the Patriot 4440 have and how much oil does it take?
It runs an 8.7 l (530 in³) Case IH Cursor, Tier 4B (final). An oil change with a new filter takes about 23.7 l (25.0 US qt) of CASE IH AKCELA UNITEK NO. 1 SBL CJ-4. p. 34
What torque do the Patriot 4440 wheel lug nuts need?
608 - 675 N·m (450 - 500 lb ft). The spec is the same for front and rear wheels. p. 736
What hydrostatic charge and working pressure should the Patriot 4440 show?
Charge pressure should read 24.1 bar (350 psi) at 1300 RPM, with the gauge on port M3 and oil at 49 °C (120 °F). Maximum working pressure is 420 bar (6090 psi) in forward and reverse. p. 348
How much coolant, hydraulic oil and refrigerant does the Patriot 4440 take?
The cooling system takes 60 l (15.75 US gal), and 30 l (7.9 US gal) of that sits in the radiator. The hydraulic tank holds 110 l (29 US gal). The A/C takes 1.65 kg (3.63 lb) of R134A, and each wheel hub takes 1.1 l (2.3 US pt). p. 34
How big are the Patriot 4440 product, rinse and foam marker tanks?
The product tank holds 4542 l (1200 US gal), the rinse tank 530 l (140 US gal) and the foam marker tank 208 l (55 US gal). Travel speed is up to 48 km/h (30 mph). p. 35
