Case IH Farmall 75N, 85N, 95N, 105N and 105V Common Problems This Manual Covers

Steering wheel excessively stiff

The steering troubleshooting table lists three causes. If the hydraulic pump is faulty, repair it. If the pressure relief valve is set wrong, calibrate it to 165.0 - 170.0 bar (2392 - 2465 psi). If the valve is jammed or held open by debris, clear the foreign bodies out and clean the filter.

Manual Section: Steering: hydraulic control components troubleshooting p. 792
Three-point hitch lift does not rise

Start with the cheapest fix and replace a clogged oil filter. Next, check whether the control valve is stuck in the discharge position, and release it if it is. If both check out, the hydraulic pump is faulty and needs an overhaul or replacement. The relief valve setting is 180 bar (2610 psi).

Manual Section: Rear three-point hitch troubleshooting p. 738
Brake pedal stroke too long

Air in the brake circuit is the first thing to check, so bleed the circuit. Then look for leaks at the control pipes and fix whatever is causing them. If the pedal still travels too far, the brake control pumps are worn and need replacing. Working pressure is 17.6 bar (255.20 psi).

Manual Section: Hydraulic service brakes troubleshooting p. 479
Clutch slips

Worn disks are the usual cause. Replace any part worn to or past its limit, then adjust the levers and linkage. Driven disc thickness is 9.6 - 10.4 mm (0.38 - 0.41 in). Replace a distorted or damaged Belleville spring disk. Oil or grease on the lining means new discs, and you need to find the leak first.

Manual Section: Clutch troubleshooting p. 69

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this manual cover my Farmall 75N, 85N, 95N, 105N or 105V?

It does if yours is a Tier 3 Farmall 75N, 85N, 95N, 105N or 105V, with or without cab. The cover lists the PIN ranges for each model, so check your PIN against that list. The book is written for the North American market. p. 1

What does the Case IH Farmall 75N to 105V rear three-point hitch lift, and what is its relief valve setting?

The rear hitch uses Category 1st and 2nd linkage. Maximum lift is 2600 kg at the lower-arm link ends, with the top link in the upper hole. The pressure relief valve is set at 180 bar (2610 psi). p. 678

What engine speed gives 540 and 540E PTO speed on the Case IH Farmall 75N to 105V?

540 RPM at the PTO shaft comes at 2196 engine RPM. 540E gets there at 1535 engine RPM. A 540/540E/1000 RPM PTO is optional on all models. p. 430

What is the service brake working pressure on these Farmall tractors?

Service brake working pressure is 17.6 bar (255.20 psi). On N models the brake disk thickness is 10 mm (0.3937 in). p. 458

Does the manual explain the electronic fault codes?

Yes. Every code is listed with its control module, context, possible failure modes and solution. Code 1008, for example, is a fast up/down switch failure on the rear electronic lift control unit. p. 2086
