Part of the Case IH Repair Manuals.
Covers the Case IH RB454, RB464, RB554 and RB564 round balers, from the PTO driveline at the tractor end back to the bale ejector. General specs come first, then ten systems: driveline, hydraulics, frame, axles, electrical, pickups, pressing, wrapping, ejection and shielding.
The electrical section has the baler lights wiring diagram, harness and connector checks, Net-Twine Wrapper calibration and the operator panel diagnostic mode. Hydraulics covers the tailgate lift, belt tension, bale density and pickup lift circuits.
The main torque table is on page 46, so wheel nuts, the sledge slip clutch and the PTO-to-gearbox bolts are on one sheet. Pick the system that's giving you trouble and go straight to its section.

Case IH RB454, RB464, RB554, RB564 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Belts fray or tear
Check belt tracking first, then look for worn starter, stationary and floor rolls and tired bearings. The Pressing section covers belts, tracking and slippage. Use the belt tension system procedure in Hydraulics to confirm tension is right before you fit new belts.
Manual Section: Pressing / Hydraulics p. 778Bale rotation stalls or the main drive / sledge clutch slips
The usual cause is glazed linings, especially on a clutch that was never burnished at the start of the season. Implement Driveline covers main drive slip clutch burnishing and adjustment. Check spring preload, and check the sledge slip clutch against its 677 to 767 N·m rating on page 46.
Manual Section: Implement Driveline p. 137Net does not cut cleanly or the wrap comes off loose
Check the net wrapper brake pad against the 2 to 4 mm (3/32 to 5/32 in) spec on page 46. The Wrapping section covers the knife and brake adjustments. If the mechanical side checks out, recalibrate the actuator with the Net-Twine Wrapper procedure in Electrical Systems.
Manual Section: Wrapping / Electrical Systems p. 46Operator panel dead on startup or showing ERROR
Start at the tractor connector and confirm the baler is getting power. Electrical Systems covers harness and connector checks, operator panel setup and diagnostic mode, and Net-Twine Wrapper calibration. Rule out wiring faults before you recalibrate the potentiometer.
Manual Section: Electrical Systems p. 401Frequently Asked Questions
What is the sledge slip clutch torque on the Case IH RB454, RB464, RB554, RB564, and why does mine keep slipping?
The sledge slip clutch is rated at 677 to 767 N·m (500 to 567 lb ft), listed on page 46. If it slips with the setting correct, suspect glazed linings. Implement Driveline covers burnishing and adjusting the main drive slip clutch, which belongs at the start of every season. p. 46
The operator panel is dead or shows ERROR with flashing bale shape bars. Where do I start?
First check for power at the tractor connector. Then work through the harness and connectors in the Electrical Systems section. If power and wiring check out, go to potentiometer calibration and the operator panel diagnostic mode next. p. 401
What oil goes in the gearbox, and how much?
80W-90 API GL5, 0.65 L (22 oz.), per page 106. Gearbox service sits in the Implement Driveline section, along with the PTO driveline overhaul and the drives. p. 106
What tire pressure and wheel torque do the 480/45-17 tires need on the Case IH RB454, RB464, RB554, RB564?
Run the 480/45-17, 10 ply tires at 193 to 220 kPa (28 to 32 psi). Wheel bolts take 156 N·m (115 lb ft) and wheel nuts take 380 N·m (280 lb ft), both on page 46. Wheel bearings are covered under Axles and Wheels. p. 46
How do I know the pickup flotation is set right?
Lifting the pickup at the pickup wheel should take 45 kg (100 lb), per page 180. The Pickups section covers the standard pickup, the wide pickup with stuffer and the wide pickup with rotor. Pickup lift is under Hydraulics. p. 180
