Part of the Case IH Repair Manuals.
You have a baler parked in the shed, the tractor unhooked, and hay drying in the windrow. The next hour is a bent tailgate latch, a net wrapper that won't cut, or a code on the monitor you have never seen before. This is the Case IH service manual for the RB455, RB465 and RB565 round balers: 1st edition, July 2014, CNH part number 84546102.
It covers the PTO shaft and slip clutches, the density, tailgate, pickup, cutter, drop floor and bale eject hydraulic circuits, pickup and rotor, belts and rolls, net and twine wrap, and the electronics. You are out there alone with the machine and nobody to call.
The chapters run in order with page ranges, and faults are listed by number in the fault code index. That gets you from the code on the screen to the right page fast, so you can get back to baling before the weather turns.

Case IH RB455–RB565 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Bale density pressure drops or never reaches maximum
Work through the Bale density circuit - Troubleshooting table. Check whether the density relief valve is adjusted, then look for dirt in the relief valve and internal leakage. If there is air in the system, bleed it per Hydraulic cylinders - Charging 35.540. The pre-charge accumulator takes dry nitrogen only, at 4137 kPa (600 psi).
Manual Section: Hydraulic systems - Bale density circuit - Troubleshooting p. 281Tailgate opens slowly, slams shut, or drifts open
The Tailgate circuit - Troubleshooting table covers each symptom. A slow opening usually means a restriction in the line or a lockout valve that needs adjusting. A fast close points to a missing or wrongly installed orifice. Drift comes from a cylinder internal leak, a tractor remote that is not sealing, or a tailgate that is not latched.
Manual Section: Hydraulic systems - Tailgate circuit - Troubleshooting p. 303Pickup rises too fast or will not lower
Go to the Pickup lift circuit - Troubleshooting table. If the pickup rises too fast, check that the orifice is present and installed correctly, because a missing one lets the pickup shoot up. If it will not lower, check the pickup flotation spring adjustment against the Product feeding chapter.
Manual Section: Hydraulic systems - Pickup lift circuit - Troubleshooting p. 314Rotor knives will not stay inserted on an RB455 or RB465
The Cutter control circuit - Troubleshooting table lists three causes: an internal leak in the cylinder, a tractor remote that is not sealing, and a leak in the hydraulic lines. Work through each cause the table lists before you replace parts.

What does a fault code on the RB465 monitor mean?
Codes are shown in NNN.NN form, and the manual prints a fault code index plus a FAULT CODES diagnostic section. For example, 100.03 means battery supply voltage is too high - greater than 15.0 V. 100.04 means it is too low - less than 10.0 V. 101.04 means reference voltage is too low or is shorted to a low source - less than 4.5 V. Each code sends you to a diagnostic procedure, so you are not just swapping modules to see what happens. p. 673
How do I read the fault history on an RB565?
The fault history screen shows the past ten fault codes, a cumulative count, and the bale count when each fault happened. The bale count is useful: it shows whether a fault started last week or has been coming back all season. Some alarms are never stored in the history. These are 600.11 net did not cut at the end of the wrap cycle, 600.13 bale shape imbalance, and 600.21 tailgate is open. p. 402
What are the torque specs for RB455 wheels and clutches?
Wheel lug torque depends on the tire. 31 X 13.5-15, 8 ply, 6 lugs gets 156 - 183 N·m (115 - 135 lb ft). 18L-16.1 SL, 10 ply, 6 lugs gets 380 - 407 N·m (280 - 300 lb ft). 21.5L-16.1, 10 ply, 8 lugs gets 203 - 230 N·m (150 - 170 lb ft). The rear axle chapter shows the tightening pattern. The PTO chapter gives slip torque figures for the friction disc clutch. p. 139
How do I set the PTO slip clutch?
You set the friction disc slip clutch by measuring distance (A). On the 540 RPM clutch rated 1700 N·m (1254 lb ft), that distance is 17.3 - 17.8 mm (0.68 - 0.70 in) and slip torque is 1530 - 2040 N·m (1129 - 1504 lb ft). On the 1000 RPM clutch rated 1000 N·m (738 lb ft), it is 18.8 - 19.3 mm (0.74 - 0.76 in), slipping at 900 - 1200 N·m (664 - 885 lb ft). A clutch set too tight turns a plugged rotor into a broken driveline. p. 222
What tractor do I need to run an RB465 with a rotor cutter?
The minimum for the RB465 rotor cutter is 78 kW (105 Hp), plus 1.1 kW (1.5 Hp) for each cutter knife used. With a rotor feeder it drops to 67 kW (90 Hp). With the OSF it is 56 kW (75 Hp) in silage and 52 kW (70 Hp) in hay. Look this up before you hitch a borrowed tractor to a full knife bank, and it will save you a long afternoon. p. 112
