Part of the Case IH Repair Manuals.
You're about to pull the hood panels on a Titan floater, drain the engine oil, or track down a DEF warning that just lit up in the cab. This is the Case IH factory service manual from December 2014. It covers the Titan 3040 and 3540 three wheel units and the Titan 4040 and 4540 four wheel units, with or without auxiliary transmission.
It starts at the 8.7 l Cursor Tier 4B (final) engine and SCR aftertreatment. From there it covers the Allison transmission, Hi-Lo unit, axles, air brakes, hydraulics, steering, cab climate control, electrical schematic sheets, connectors and fault codes.
Guessing gets expensive. You buy the wrong DEF part, pull the engine twice, or chew up a final drive. Buy this once and keep it with the machine.

Case IH Titan 3040, Titan 3540, Titan 4040, Titan 4540 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Air conditioning is not cooling, and both low side and high side pressures read low to very low
This pattern means the system is low on refrigerant. Find the leak and fix it before adding anything. Check the compressor oil level and adjust it as needed. Then evacuate the system and recharge it to the 2.21 kg (4.9 lb) refrigerant capacity. The cab climate control section covers testing and problem solving.
Manual Section: Cab climate control - Air conditioning - Problem solving p. 715Engine oil pressure too low warning
Check the oil level and look for fuel in the oil. Then test the oil pressure sensor. Next check the oil pressure control valve and the suction line for damage or leaks. After that, look at the oil pump and main bearings. If the hardware checks out, look at the engine control unit software.
Manual Section: Fault codes - Oil pressure is too low p. 1793Water in fuel warning comes on
The engine control unit has seen water in the fuel or a fault in the water in fuel switch circuit. Check the fuel for water, purge the fuel supply system, replace the fuel filters and refill with clean, water-free fuel. If the warning comes back, test the water in fuel switch and replace it.
Manual Section: Fault codes - Water in fuel detected p. 1855DEF/AdBlue level too low warning with SCR inducement
The warning sets when the tank level signal drops below 10 % of full. Fill the DEF/AdBlue tank, then check the tank level and temperature sensor. Before the machine goes back to work, use the service tool to reset the engine restart counter and unlock inducement.
Manual Section: Fault codes - DEF/AdBlue level too low warning p. 1750Frequently Asked Questions
What engine does a Case IH Titan 3040, 3540, 4040 or 4540 have and how much power does it make?
All four models use the 8.7 l (530 in³) Case IH Cursor engine, Tier 4B (final). The book prints 330 Hp for the Titan 3040 and 400 Hp for the Titan 3540. The Titan 4040 and 4540 pages print no power figure. Behind the engine is an Allison 3000 RDS 6 speed automatic, and a Fabco 2 speed auxiliary transmission if the machine has one. p. 35
How much fuel, DEF, engine oil, coolant and hydraulic oil does a Case IH Titan floater hold?
The diesel tank holds 568 l (150 US gal) and the DEF/AdBlue tank 108 l (28.5 US gal). Engine oil with filter is about 25 l (6.6 US gal) of CASE IH AKCELA UNITEK NO. 1 SBL CJ-4. The radiator takes 52 l (13.75 US gal). The hydraulic tank holds 114 l (30 US gal) of CASE IH AKCELA HY-TRAN ULTRACTION, chassis only. The transmission takes 21 l (5.5 US gal) and the rear differential 17 l (4.5 US gal). p. 32
How heavy is a Case IH Titan floater?
A Titan 3040 without auxiliary transmission weighs 10428 kg (22990 lb). A Titan 3540 with auxiliary transmission weighs 10886 kg (24000 lb). The weights for the Titan 4040 and 4540 are printed as estimates. Total static chassis rated capacity is 22680 kg (50000 lb), and overall width is 3.5 m (138 in). p. 34
How often do I change the engine oil and filter on a Case IH Titan floater?
Change the engine oil and filter at the first 100 hours, then every 600 hours. Do the fuel filters and the DEF/AdBlue in-line filter at the same service. p. 28
What tires does a Case IH Titan floater use and how tight are the front wheel bolts?
The three wheel Titan 3040 and 3540 run Firestone 66 x 43-25 or 73 x 44.00-32 bias tires, or Goodyear / Michelin 1000/50R25 or 1050/50R32 radials. The four wheel Titan 4040 and 4540 use 750/45R26.5, 54 x 31R26 or 750/50R26 radials up front. Torque the front wheel bolts and nuts to 610 - 678 N·m (450 - 500 lb ft). p. 301
