Case IH WD2104, WD2504 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Noisy charge pump

Start with the fluid supply, and if it is low, top up with CASE IH AKCELA NEXPLORE fluid. If the fluid is too heavy, change it to the proper fluid. Clean or replace plugged fluid filters, and clean the suction line if it is plugged. The Main Lift System and Charge Pump section covers the reservoir, cooler and filters. It also has the charge pump relief valve test, which should read 20.7 to 22.8 bar (300 to 330 psi) in neutral.

Manual Section: Charge pump troubleshooting p. 575
Hydraulic oil temperature above 107 °C (225 °F)

Check the oil level first and add fluid if the supply is low. Clear any debris out of the hydraulic oil cooler and clean the rear screen. Check the hydraulic oil filter, the in-line check valve and the filter head bypass valve. If the relief valve on the charge manifold is set wrong, the manual says to replace it. The charge pump troubleshooting table in Main Lift System and Charge Pump lists each cause.

Manual Section: Charge pump troubleshooting p. 575
Header drive motor, excessive case drain flow

Case drain flow should not exceed 5.7 L/min (1.5 US gpm) at full pressure. Anything above that points to excessive internal wear. The fix is to disassemble the motor, inspect the parts and replace whatever is worn. Header drive motor troubleshooting is in the Header Hydraulic Drive section, next to the drive pump pressure tests and the pump overhaul steps.

Manual Section: Header drive motor troubleshooting p. 752
Low battery charge

If there is an excessive load, find the short and repair it. Check every connection and repair any that are faulty. Try charging a low battery, and replace it if it will not hold a charge. If all of that checks out, replace the alternator, which is a 150 A unit. The Electrical System Calibrations and Tests section covers the battery and alternator checks and the charging circuit inspection.

Manual Section: Charging circuit inspection p. 1098

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this manual cover my Case IH WD2104 or WD2504 windrower?

It covers the WD2104 and WD2504 Tier 4B (final) self-propelled windrowers, PIN YGG677501 and above, North America. The manual is part number 48126554, 1st edition April 2017. It covers both draper ready and non-draper ready machines. p. 1

What are the fluid capacities on the WD2104 and WD2504?

The engine crankcase takes 16 l (16.9 US qt) with the filter. The cooling system holds 25.7 L (27.2 US qt). Fuel is split between two tanks for a total of 454 L (120 US gal), and the DEF tank holds 72 L (19 US gal). The hydraulic reservoir is 41.6 l (11 US gal), and the total hydraulic system on draper units is 68.1 l (18 US gal). Each planetary final drive takes 0.89 l (0.94 US qt). p. 49

What are the hydraulic pressure settings on the WD2104 and WD2504?

The header lift relief should test at 217.8 to 222.2 bar (3158.1 to 3221.9 psi). Charge pressure relief, tested in neutral, should read 20.7 to 22.8 bar (300 to 330 psi). The steering circuit relief valve is set at 138 bar (2000 psi). p. 557

What engine is in the WD2104 and WD2504 and how much power does it make?

Both run the NEF 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel with a charge air cooler. It is 6.7 L (409 in³), engine code F4HFE613A*B001. The WD2104 makes 157 kW (210 Hp) and the WD2504 makes 187 kW (250 Hp), both rated at 2200 RPM. Peak torque at 1600 RPM is 915 N·m (675 lb ft) on the WD2104 and 1065 N·m (786 lb ft) on the WD2504. p. 49

Does the manual include wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics and fault codes?

Yes. The electrical schematic sheets come in two sets, one for non-draper machines and one for draper machines. Sheet 15, for example, covers the starting and charging system. The hydraulic schematic frames are split the same way. Every fault code gets its own card listing possible failure modes and the solution. p. 1229
