John Deere 310SJ Common Problems This Manual Covers
Engine parts ordered for the wrong one of the three 4045 engine variants
Read the engine plate on the right side of the block near the fuel pump, then match it to section 04A (4045HL287 SE503032), 04B (4045HT054 RE528281) or 04C (4045TT094). The option code sticker page in the introduction explains how the base engine code identifies the engine model. Only order from the matching section.

Section 03 lists the original transmissions as NLA and gives the reman replacements. Machines with MFWD take PG200326 (replaces AT336000 / AT316534). Machines without MFWD take PG200325 (replaces AT335999 / AT316533). Check whether the machine has a front drive axle before ordering. The torque converter reman, PG200131, is in the same section.

Trace the hose route on the exploded drawing from the control valve outward. The loader valve is drawn on p.926-927 and the backhoe valve on p.1100-1101. Which John Deere 310SJ machines does parts catalog PC10068 cover?
The cover says the 310SJ backhoe loader, manufactured 2007 - 2012. No PIN range is printed anywhere in the book. How do I tell which of the three engines my 310SJ has before ordering engine parts?
The catalog has three separate engine sections: 04A 4045HL287 (SE503032), 04B 4045HT054 (RE528281) and 04C 4045TT094. It does not say which machine serial numbers got which engine. Read the engine plate on the right side of the block, near the fuel pump. The option code sticker page explains that the base engine code identifies the engine model. The emissions table lists the 4045HL287 and 4045HT054 as Tier 3. p. 192
Where are the serial number plates on the John Deere 310SJ?
The catalog shows six plates. The product identification number is on the left-hand side of the loader frame, just above the lift cylinder pivot boss. The engine plate is on the right side of the block near the fuel pump. The transmission plate is on the bottom rear of the housing. The MFWD axle plate is on the right rear of its housing, and the rear axle plate is near the fill plug. The hydraulic pump number is on the bottom face of the pump. p. 5
Does the catalog list the transmission and its reman replacement?
Yes. Section 03 covers the transmission. The original units are all marked NLA: AT316534 / AT336000 with MFWD, and AT316533 / AT335999 without MFWD. Order reman PG200326 for MFWD machines or PG200325 for machines without MFWD. Reman torque converter PG200131 and transmission oil filter AT466863 are listed in the same section. p. 159
Which filters for the 310SJ are listed, with part numbers?
Engine oil filter RE504836, and the catalog says to also order R502513. Fuel filter element RE522878 is listed for the 4045HL287 engine. Hydraulic oil filter AT308274 is in the main hydraulic section. Primary air filter KV16429 is listed for the 4045TT094. Transmission oil filter AT466863 is in section 03. Fuel filter numbers depend on the engine, so read your engine plate before you order a box of them. p. 265
