Check the remote flow control before blaming the tractor. Cycle the adjuster full open to full closed; these valves seize if never moved. Verify the valve meters flow within the 0 to 17 L/min (4.5 gpm US) range shown on page 143, then set tractor remote flow low and fine tune at the spreader valve.

Open the flow control valve a half turn; closing it too far builds backpressure that pushes oil past the lever seals and keeps the detent from kicking out. Verify tractor standby pressure sits between 10343 kPa (1500 psi) and 15514 kPa (2250 psi), the spec listed on page 126, before condemning the tractor valve.

Test hydraulic supply first: hook a gauge to the remote and confirm at least 1500 psi (10342 kPa) minimum system pressure, per the troubleshooting chart starting on page 145. If pressure is good, work through the sequencing checks there; internal cylinder leakage is the usual culprit, so run the leakage test before pulling either cylinder.

Check the slip clutch first; a glazed or worn friction disk lets the clutch slip under load. Verify slip torque against the 862 to 922 N·m (638 to 680 ft-lb) spec at 540 rpm on page 64, and replace friction disks that fail the wear check. Load lighter when material is frozen.

Run the driveline checks: look for a bent shaft, failed yoke crosses, and worn sprockets. Grab each beater driveline bearing and feel for movement; replace any with play. If the gear case growls, pull the cover and measure backlash, which should run 0.13 to 0.25 mm (0.005 to 0.010 in.) per page 100.
