Part of the New Holland Repair Manuals.
Fault finding on the SAR anti-tipping system, or a pressure test on the clutch high pressure circuit, starts with this 733-page New Holland LM5040 service manual PDF, factory publication 87471751E for the LM5040, 5060 and 5080 telehandlers. Numbered circuit diagrams trace starting and recharge, transmission, boom control, chassis levelling (LM5080 only) and the anti-tipping circuit, backed by full connector and component lists. On the hydraulic side, schematics follow the steering, telescopic boom and transmission oil circuits, and the gearbox chapter adds torque converter pressure tests plus powershift and power shuttle overhauls. Set the pressure reduction valve to 35 bar. Pump-to-transmission mounting screws take 120 Nm; the rigid tube screws take 80 Nm. When the task is tracing the telescopic boom circuit through its control valve to the cylinders, your schematics show that routing. Chapter bookmarks and a live text layer help you on screen, and the pages print cleanly as a working copy you can mark up.

New Holland LM5040, LM5060, LM5080 Common Problems This Manual Covers
New Holland LM5040, LM5060, LM5080 telehandler diesel engine, battery terminals or thermostart suspect, engine fails to start
Clean, check and tighten the battery terminal nuts, replacing them if needed, following page 63. Turn the starter switch to OFF before disconnecting the battery and never disconnect it with the engine running (page 619). Never check charge by bridging the terminals with metal objects (page 12). Then check the starter motor and injection pump timing, and replace a faulty thermostart.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 63Radiator clogged with dirt and plant matter or coolant level low, diesel engine overheats
Check coolant level only after turning the cap slowly to release pressure, as the danger notice on page 53 requires. Look for leaks and top up to the correct level; the cooling system holds 17 litres (page 32). Inspect the water pump and fan belts, thermostat and air cleaner. Clean the radiator thoroughly and clear dirt and plant matter from the engine compartment floor, following page 65.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 65Clogged air cleaner or fuel filters, engine lacks power and operation is irregular
Clean the air cleaner assembly and replace the filter element if needed, then replace the fuel filters as the Operation and Maintenance Manual describes, following page 66. Check the fuel system and repair as required. If power stays down, check engine timing, injection pump timing, cylinder head gasket and fan. Page 67 continues with thermostat, injectors and fuel feed impurities.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 66Diesel engine with low fuel tank level or restricted fuel filters keeps stalling
Check the fuel level first, fill the tank and bleed the fuel system if air got in, following page 72. Replace the fuel filters if they are restricted. If stalling continues, check the fuel circuit and bleed it again, adjust idle speed, then check injection pump controls and valve clearance as listed on page 73.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 72Powershift transmission clutch slips in stall test and gauge shows low clutch pressure
Check transmission oil level with fluid at 82 to 93 °C, never cold, per page 115, and fill to the correct level. Clean the clutch pressure regulating valve spool and housing, replace a faulty charge pump, replace worn clutch shaft or piston seals and clean the bleed valves (page 116). Warming oil by stall test? Brace against a barrier, watch for unexpected movement, and stall 30 seconds maximum, then 15 seconds in neutral (pages 114, 115).
Manual Section: Transmission Troubleshooting p. 116Dirty transmission oil cooler or restricted cooler lines, powershift transmission oil keeps overheating
Check transmission oil level and fill to the correct level following page 116. Clean the oil cooler and replace restricted cooler oil lines. Blow the radiator clean with compressed air, as page 115 advises. If heat persists, suspect a worn charge pump or worn oil seals: replace the pump, or remove, strip and reassemble the converter. Above 120 °C, clutches, fluid, converter and seals get damaged (page 114).
Manual Section: Transmission Troubleshooting p. 116Frequently Asked Questions
How do I bleed air from the cooling system on an LM5040, LM5060, or LM5080?
To bleed air from the cooling system, start the engine and run it at idle for at least five minutes. Close the expansion tank cap securely and increase engine revolutions to warm the coolant until the thermostat opens. The maximum time for complete removal of air from the circuit is about 15 minutes from the time the thermostat opens. p. 62
What is the wheel-nut torque for a New Holland LM5040, LM5060, or LM5080?
The tightening torque for the wheel nuts on these models is 540 Nm. p. 30
What causes low transmission clutch pressure on a New Holland LM telehandler?
Low clutch pressure can be caused by low oil level, a clutch pressure regulating valve that is permanently open, a faulty charge pump, broken or worn clutch shaft or piston seals, or a clutch piston bleed valve that is permanently open. p. 116
What is the engine oil capacity for the NEF 445TA/M3 engine in the New Holland LM5040, LM5060, LM5080?
The engine oil capacity, including the engine oil filter, is 14 litres. p. 32
What torque do the cylinder head screws take on the New Holland LM5040, LM5060, LM5080 NEF 445TA/M3 engine?
The cylinder head screws are tightened in three stages. The first stage for M12x1.75x70 screws is 50 ±5 Nm, for M12x1.75x140 screws is 40 ±5 Nm, and for M12x1.75x180 screws is 70 ±5 Nm. The second stage is 90 degrees, and the third stage (for 140 and 180 length screws only) is 90 degrees. p. 76
