Part of the New Holland Repair Manuals.
Take the engine down on a turning stand with injectors, manifolds and water pump off, following the 123-page New Holland TV6070 Iveco 6.7L F4CE NEF repair manual PDF, OEM 87491857. Overhaul data works through the cylinder unit, timing system, output shaft, rod and piston assembly and cylinder head, while wiring diagrams trace the starter, pre-post heating, KSB sensor and alternator circuits. Troubleshooting charts link starting faults, overheating, abnormal knocking and smoke colour to likely causes, and a maintenance schedule sets your oil, coolant and fuel filter intervals. Expect 90 A at 6000 rpm from a healthy alternator, and seat the starter to the gear case at 49 ± 5 Nm. Bookmarked, text-searchable pages keep the clearance data and torque tables close before it goes back together, and fastener callouts like M8x1.25x30 let you order the correct bolt the first time.

New Holland TV6070 Iveco 6.7L F4CE NEF Common Problems This Manual Covers
New Holland F4CE NEF engine with flat battery or corroded, loose battery terminals does not start
Check and recharge the battery, replacing it if necessary, following page 62. Clean, examine and tighten the battery terminal nuts; replace the cable terminals and nuts if excessively corroded. Do not smoke or light flames near the battery (page 122), and treat battery exhalation as a serious intoxication hazard (page 123). If the battery and terminals check good, repair or replace the faulty starter motor.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 62Fuel feed circuit with air bubbles or clogged fuel filter, engine cuts out or will not start
Check the hoses for cracks and the unions for looseness, replacing worn parts, per page 63. Bleed the circuit following page 51: disconnect the fuel pipe at the filter, work the priming pump drain lever until fuel flows out, then reconnect the pipe. Dismantle the fuel filter and replace it if clogged. Do not smoke or light flames near fuel material (page 122).
Manual Section: Feed System Bleed Procedure p. 51Engine overheats with slack water pump drive belt, low coolant or malfunctioning thermostat
Check coolant only after the engine has cooled, and never open the cooling circuit filler cap hot (pages 72 and 122); a hot engine can also move the belt unexpectedly (page 73). Top up coolant, then check and adjust belt tightness or the automatic tensioner per page 64. Check the water pump and replace it with a new gasket if faulty. Replace a malfunctioning thermostat and clean a blocked dry air cleaner.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 64Engine knocking from excessive play on main bearings, rod bearings or crankshaft shoulders
Inspect the crankshaft for excessive main bearing, rod bearing and shoulder play, per page 66. Rectify the crankshaft pins, install smaller bearings and replace the thrust half-rings; do not try to adapt the bearings (page 94). Torque the main bearing caps to 50 ± 6 Nm, then 80 ± 6 Nm, then 90° ± 5° following page 109. Replace any loosened flywheel screws and tighten all of them to the specified torque.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 66Black or dark grey exhaust smoke with blocked air cleaner or clogged atomiser holes
Clean or replace the air cleaner element first, per page 67. Check the atomiser holes and replace the injectors with a new set, or clean and rectify the originals using suitable equipment. Check injection hose ends and unions for pinching and replace hoses where necessary. For excessive maximum pump output or incorrect injection pump set-up, see your Iveco dealer as page 66 directs.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 67Blue or grey exhaust smoke tending to white with oil passing piston rings or valve guides
Replace the thermostat if it is blocked or inefficient and the engine runs too cold, per page 67. Replace any faulty injector. If oil is passing glued or worn piston rings or worn cylinder liner walls, overhaul the engine; if it passes worn valve guides or stems, recondition the cylinder head. For excessive delay in the injection pump, see your Iveco dealer.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 67Frequently Asked Questions
How do I troubleshoot an Iveco NEF engine that will not start?
If the engine does not start, check if the battery is flat or faulty, or if battery terminal connections are corroded or loose. Other causes include incorrect injection pump timing, deposits or water in the fuel tank, no fuel, or a faulty starter motor. Refer to page 62 for a complete troubleshooting table. p. 62
What are the oil and filter replacement specifications for the New Holland TV6070 Iveco 6.7L F4CE NEF engine?
The engine oil and filter should be replaced every 500 hours. For the 6-cylinder engine, the oil sump capacity is 16 liters, and the total capacity including the filter is 17 liters. Use 15W40 ACEA E3 oil. p. 25
What are the replacement specifications for the fuel filter on the New Holland TV6070 Iveco 6.7L F4CE NEF?
The fuel filter should be replaced every 500 hours. When installing a new filter, tighten it using the 99360076 tool to a torque of 10-15 Nm. p. 75
What is the correct intake and exhaust valve clearance for the New Holland TV6070 Iveco 6.7L F4CE NEF engine?
The correct clearance for intake valves is 0.25 ± 0.05 mm, and for exhaust valves, it is 0.50 ± 0.05 mm. Note that for TIER 3 engines, you must check each cylinder at U.D.C. at the end of the compression phase. p. 42
What is the tightening procedure for the cylinder head bolts?
Cylinder head bolts must be lubricated and torqued in stages starting from the center bolts and moving outward. For M12x140 bolts, torque to 40 Nm followed by a 180-degree rotation. For M12x180 bolts, torque to 70 Nm followed by a 180-degree rotation. p. 40
