Case C50/C60/C70/C80/C90/C100 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Case C50 hydraulic system responding slowly or not lifting implements during heavy loader work p. 41

Check the filter replacement schedule on page 41. Replace the transmission and hydraulic oil filter after the first 20 engine hours, then every 500 hours. Verify the system maximum pressure reaches 17 237 kPa to ensure proper implement operation.

Manual Section: Operating Instructions
Unexpected engine overheating with steam or coolant warning gauge reaching the red zone during field operation p. 159

Inspect the cooling system and radiator fins for debris accumulation. Verify the drive belt deflection measures exactly 19 mm as specified on page 159. Adjust the belt tension if necessary and ensure the coolant reservoir is filled to the proper mark before starting.

Manual Section: Lubrication/Maintenance
Engine won't start or turns over extremely slowly when trying to operate in cold weather conditions p. 204

Inspect the battery terminals for corrosion and clean them thoroughly. Check the specific gravity on page 204; it must measure 1.255 to 1.265. Ensure your Group Size 27 battery delivers 605 Amperes at 0 degrees Celsius for reliable cold starting.

Manual Section: Specifications
Front tires wearing unevenly or clunking noise coming from the front axle during transport p. 126

Inspect the front wheel hardware for looseness before driving. For MFD models, torque the front wheel disc to rim bolts to 280-340 Nm as directed on page 126. Check the tire pressures and adjust the front tread spacing if required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the recommended service intervals?

The manual outlines various service intervals, including daily or every 10 hours, weekly or every 50 hours, monthly or every 250 hours, six monthly or every 500 hours, annually or every 1000 hours, and bi-annually or every 2000 hours. For a detailed schedule of tasks, refer to the Lubrication/Maintenance Chart on pages 140-141.

What fluids and capacities does this machine require?

The machine requires Case No.1 Engine Oil, Multi Grade. MS1121 for the engine, with capacities of 6 Litres (10.5 UK Pints) for C50/C60 and 7 Litres (12.3 UK Pints) for C70/C80/C90/C100. The cooling system uses a 55% water and 45% ethylene glycol solution, with capacities of 11.4 Litres (20.0 UK Pints) for C50/C60 and 13.7 Litres (24.0 UK Pints) for C70/C80/C90/C100. The fuel tank capacity is 115 Litres (25.3 UK Gallons) of No.2 Diesel Fuel. The transmission/hydraulic system uses Case HY-TRAN PLUS® fluid, with approximately 34.0 Litres (7.5 UK Gallons) for 2WD models and 36.5 Litres (8.0 UK Gallons) for MFD models. MFD Axle requires Case SAE 85W - 140 EP Gear Oil to API GL-5 or MIL-L-2105D Specification (MS 1316), with 5.0 Litres (8.8 UK Pints) for differential and 0.6 Litres (1 UK Pints) per planetary.

How to troubleshoot engine won't start?

If the engine does not start, check the indicator lamps and gauges for normal indications; if they are not correct, stop the engine and check the cause (page 43). If using the Thermostart system, and the engine does not start in the first 15 seconds, repeat the procedure, pushing the thermostart button for only 10 seconds, and wait three minutes between starts if it still doesn't start (page 47). Additionally, the engine may not start if there is air in the fuel system, requiring an air removal procedure (page 162), or if fuel injectors are damaged (page 181).

What are the hydraulic system specifications?

The hydraulic system features a Gear type pump. For C50, C60 Tractors, the standard pump flow capacity is 53 l/min (11.6 g/min) and high capacity is 60 l/min (13.2 g/min) at 2200 rpm. For C70, C80, C90, C100 Tractors, standard flow is 59 l/min (13 g/min) and high capacity is 68 l/min (15 g/min) at 2200 rpm. The maximum system pressure is 17,237 kPa (2500 psi).

What torque specifications are listed?

Various torque specifications are provided throughout the manual. Front wheel mounting bolts for W/W5.50-16, W/W5.50-18, and W/W5.50F-20 require 81 to 108 Nm (60 to 80 lbs ft), while W/W8L-16 requires 108 to 136 Nm (80 to 100 lbs ft) (page 111). MFD disc to rim bolts should be torqued to 280-340 Nm (205-250 lbs ft), and disc to front axle hub nuts to 300 to 350 Nm (221 to 258 lbs ft) (page 111). Rear wheel disc to rim nuts are 210 to 270 Nm (155 to 199 ft lb) (page 120, 121). ROPS mounting bolts range from 100 to 637 Nm depending on the specific bolt and ROPS option (pages 98-99).
