Part of the Case IH Repair Manuals.
More than 1,200 pages of Case IH service data take the DX55 and DX60 from the front axle drop box back to the rear axle final pinion. Use them to split, rebuild and reassemble a compact tractor without guessing. This is the Complete Repair manual, part # 84140461, for the DX55 SSS from PIN Z7NFP1001, the DX55 EHSS from PIN Z7NFS1001 and the DX60.
It covers both transmissions: the SSS 12x12 gear box and the EHSS, with its modulation switches, shuttle clutch and the EHSS circuit wiring diagram. To chase an EHSS circuit fault, order the breakout box the book names, #380001351.
Engine overhaul, injection pump, PTO pressure testing, hitch position control, brakes, steering, cab HVAC and wheel tread settings each get their own section. When the wheels go back on, torque the bolts to the book's 129 N·m (95 ft-lb).

Case IH DX55, DX60 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Engine is hard to start after injection pump service
Bleed the air out of the fuel system first. If the engine still won't start, loosen the injector lines at the injectors one at a time while cranking. Leave each one loose until clear fuel with no air bubbles comes out, then tighten it.
Manual Section: Engine p. 208Black or light grey exhaust smoke
The manual lists five causes: unsuitable fuel, excess fuel injection, a faulty engine component, over loading and a clogged air filter. Check the air filter, the fuel and how hard the tractor is working before pulling engine components.
Manual Section: Engine p. 113Low engine oil pressure warning comes on
The engine oil pressure switch sits in front of the cylinder head and closes when oil pressure falls below 0.41 bar (6 psi). Work through the Lubrication System section, and check the switch circuit in the Electrical System section, before tearing into the engine.
Manual Section: Electrical System p. 1263System relief valve opens with the lift arms at full height
That points to a hitch control rod adjusted too short. The control valve spool stays in the raised position when the lift arms reach maximum height, so the system relief valve opens. Readjust the rod using the position control procedure in the Hydraulic System section.
Manual Section: Hydraulic System p. 688Frequently Asked Questions
My DX55 EHSS starts fine but the transmission won't move. Do I have to reset the controller?
No reset is involved. After starting, the operator has to be in the seat and the inching pedal has to be cycled. That activation sequence wakes the EHSS controller and lets the transmission operate. p. 275
What torque do the wheel bolts take on a DX55 or DX60?
The front and rear wheel bolts both take 129 N·m (95 ft-lb). The Wheels and Tires section also covers tread settings, tractor weighting, liquid ballast and tire pressure, so you can set the whole wheel job up from one place. p. 800
The PTO shaft will not rotate. Where do I start?
The PTO troubleshooting chart starts with the simplest check: is the PTO control lever in the ON position? If it isn't, move it to ON. The same section has the PTO clutch control valve and the pressure testing procedure. p. 597
Where is the inching pedal potentiometer on the EHSS tractor?
It sits underneath the left operator's platform step. When the inching pedal is depressed, the potentiometer resets the EHSS module for a new modulation. p. 888
What tool do I need to diagnose an EHSS transmission control circuit fault?
The EHSS breakout box, #380001351. It is used to diagnose circuit faults in the transmission control circuit on the EHSS transmission. Use it alongside the EHSS circuit wiring diagram in the Electrical System section. p. 414
