Clutch slips
The clutch troubleshooting table lists three causes. First, clutch disc, pressure plate and/or flywheel wear: replace the clutch disc, replace the clutch if necessary and grind the flywheel. Second, damaged, bent or broken fingers: replace the finger assembly. Third, oil or grease on the friction material: replace the clutch disc and repair the lubricant leak. Plate thickness is specified at 7.50 - 8.10 mm (0.30 - 0.32 in).

Main lift troubleshooting gives three causes in order. Insufficient oil level in the tank: top up the level. Pump inlet filter clogged: clean or replace the filter. Air getting into the pump inlet pipe: check the inlet pipe and every coupling and gasket. The lift pump is a Rexroth gear type, 16 cm³ per revolution, mounted in tandem with the steering pump.

The service brakes troubleshooting table lists three causes. Brakes not equally adjusted: adjust them. Wrong tire pressure: inflate the tires to the correct pressure. Wrong liners on one side: replace the discs. Each side has 3 oil immersed discs, with a nominal thickness of 4.65 mm (0.183 in). Brake pedal free play is 50 - 55 mm (1.97 - 2.17 in).

Steering troubleshooting starts with no or insufficient oil pressure: the pump does not run, is defective, turns the wrong way or is worn out. Next is a pressure relief valve stuck open or set too low: repair or clean it, then adjust. Then comes a priority valve stuck open: repair or clean it. The table continues with too much friction in the steering mechanics and missing emergency steering balls. The steering pump is a Rexroth gear type, 8 cm³ per revolution.

What does a Farmall 60A fault code like DTC 131-03 mean?
DTC 131-03 means the engine coolant temperature sensor voltage is higher than expected. ECU A-9000 monitors sensor B-9003 and sets the code when signal voltage is greater than 4.93 V. The ECU then uses a fixed replacement value of 89.96 °C (193.93 °F). Step 1 is to check the fault status with the Electronic Service Tool (EST). After that come wiring checks at connectors X-9006 and X-9001, pins A57/A58. The book prints no procedure for clearing or resetting codes. p. 729
Why won't my Case IH Farmall 50A–70A tractor start?
The safety start troubleshooting table lists these causes, in this order, for a starter motor that will not energize. Insufficient battery charge: test the battery. Blown fusible link: inspect and replace. Defective key switch. Defective PTO safety or safety start relay: test the relays. Malfunctioning safety start switch: test the neutral range, main PTO transmission clutch and seat safety start switches. The battery spec is 12 V negative ground, BCI group 47, CCA 600-850. What oil and how much goes in the Farmall 50A transmission?
The book calls for APGL4SAE 20W30 transmission oil. Capacity is 23 L (6 US gal) on 2WD tractors and 25.0 L (6.6 US gal) on 4WD. The gearbox is constant mesh, with a forward-reverse mechanical synchromesh shuttle. The service brakes run in oil too. For them the book lists APGSAE 20W30. p. 120
What is the wheel bolt torque on a Farmall 70A?
The front wheel bolt torque is 192.0 N·m (141.6 lb ft). The Wheels section covers front and rear wheels separately, so check the rear wheel pages rather than reusing the front figure. On 4WD front axles, the wheel hub bearing lock nut (C6) is M45 x 1.5, torqued to 392 N·m (289 lb ft). p. 533
Does this manual cover an engine overhaul?
No. The book identifies the engine only by code R 753 IE4. It prints no make, displacement or power table. The engine section covers remove and install, air cleaners, fuel filters, fuel tanks, the aftercooler and the cooling system.
