Covers the Case IH Magnum 180, 190, 210 and 225 row-crop tractors in both Full Powershift and CVT form, from the 2009-2010 book. If your Magnum wears one of those four badges, these procedures and specs match your machine.

A Magnum parked with a fault code in the middle of planting costs you field days you won't get back. This manual takes each numbered code through context, causes, failure modes and step-by-step checks. It also covers the engine, power train, MFD front axle, brakes, cab HVAC, the rear hitch, the Full Powershift electrical schematic and the hydraulic schematic.

Capacities, fluids and filter locations are laid out up front. You'll know which filter you're pulling and how much oil the system holds before you call the parts counter, so you can order the right part number the first time.

Case IH Magnum 180, Magnum 190, Magnum 210, Magnum 225 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Code 2331 clutch slipping sets while working in the field

Go to the Fault Codes section. Clear the code with approved diagnostic equipment, run under normal conditions and retest. If it comes back, check for other codes, operate in all gears to find the slipping clutch and check its solenoid connector. If no gear slips, replace the axle speed sensor.

Manual Section: Fault Codes / Power Train - Full Powershift transmission p. 1030
Code 3281 sensor supply voltage 1 low from the engine controller

The Fault Codes section lists two failure modes: a faulty engine sensor or a faulty engine controller. Clear the code and retest, then look for other engine sensor codes. If there are none, download the correct level of software. Replace the engine controller only if 3281 comes back.

Manual Section: Fault Codes / Electronic System p. 1475
Need to check hydraulic system pressure against spec

The Primary Hydraulic Power System section covers the PFC piston pump, charge pump and regulated pressure circuit. The high pressure compensator setting limits high pressure standby, the maximum system pressure, to 20500 - 21500 kPa (2975 - 3120 psi). The regulated pressure circuit runs at 2300 kPa (335 psi).

Manual Section: Primary Hydraulic Power System p. 23
Unsure which transmission filters are due and when

The transmission filters are on the right side of the transmission. The Primary Hydraulic Power System section calls for new charge pump and vane pump filters every 600 hours. The main filter is changed every 1200 hours, and the lubrication filter at 1200 hours or two years.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you clear a fault code on a Case IH Magnum?

You clear codes with approved diagnostic equipment. Each fault code procedure starts the same way: clear the code, run the machine under normal conditions and retest. Once you've fixed the cause, clear the code again and test the system for normal operation. p. 1475

What does fault code 2331 mean on a Magnum?

2331 is Clutch Slipping. It means transmission output speed is too low for the gear you've selected. The failure modes are a faulty clutch or range solenoid, a faulty hydraulic circuit, a faulty axle speed sensor or a mechanical fault. Check for other codes, operate in all gears to find the slipping clutch, then check that clutch's solenoid connector. If nothing slips, replace the axle speed sensor. p. 1030

What does error code 3281 mean?

3281 is Sensor Supply Voltage 1 - Low, logged by the EDC engine controller. The controller feeds engine sensors from separate 5V supplies, and supply 1 is reading low. Clear the code and retest, then check for other engine sensor codes. If none show up, download the correct level of software. If 3281 comes back after that, replace the engine controller. p. 1475

What is the wheel bolt torque on a Case IH Magnum?

On MFD front tires, torque the wheel rim to hub bolts to 385 - 425 N·m (284 - 313 lb ft). On the bar axle, the wheel disc to wheel rim nut takes 250 N-m (184 lb ft). The steel wheel disc to wheel hub nut takes 255 N-m (188 lb ft). p. 2190

How much oil does the Magnum transmission/hydraulic system hold?

A Full Powershift tractor holds 22.5 US gal of transmission/hydraulic oil, and a CVT tractor holds 26.4 US gal. The same capacities list puts engine oil at 4.36 US gal with a filter change. The cooling system holds 6.25 US gal and the fuel tank holds 118 US gal. p. 11
