Part of the Case IH Repair Manuals.
Your Magnum sits in the shed with slow steering, a PTO that won't pick up or an amber light on the dash, and the crop won't wait. This is the Case IH factory service manual for the Magnum 235, 260, 290, 315 and 340 Powershift tractors, PIN ZCRD02585 and above, CNH publication 47533563.
It starts at the 9.0 l engine and SCR exhaust treatment, then works through the 18 forward/4 reverse Powershift, dropbox, 4WD and both axles. After that come the PTO, brakes, remote hydraulics, three-point hitch, steering, cab and wiring. The electrical section carries the fault code troubleshooting, and at the back are a special tool index and fold-out electrical and hydraulic schematics.
At 9 p.m. it's just you and the tractor, with nobody to call. You buy this book once and it stays with this machine, so you can get back in the field.

Case IH Magnum 235–340 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Slow or sluggish steering
Start with steering relief pressure. The Steering (41) section covers testing and adjusting it, and the steering pressure limit is 190 bar (2755 psi). If relief pressure checks out, look for a stuck steering priority spool or a broken spring, then repair or replace the spool. If it's still slow, test hydraulic pressure and flow at the pump outlet. Also check the PFC piston pump high pressure standby setting under Hydraulic systems (35).
Manual Section: Steering - Hydraulic control components - Troubleshooting p. 2018PTO does not engage
The manual narrows it to four suspects: an electrical control circuit fault, the switch, the PTO valve or the PTO clutch. Test the control circuit, the switch and the valve first, using PTO clutch testing, Test 1. If those check out, disassemble the clutch using the Power Take-Off (PTO) (31) section. On a two-speed rear PTO, the manifold plate bolts go back at 51 - 58 Nm (38 - 43 lb ft).
Manual Section: Power Take-Off (PTO) - Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch - Troubleshooting p. 1436Differential lock does not engage
First check the tractor multi function (TMF) controller for active fault codes related to the differential lock. Then check the differential lock icon on the instrumentation. With the switch On, measure 12 V between pin 1 of connector X-158 and chassis ground. If the circuit is good, go to differential lock control solenoid testing. If the solenoid also tests good, the manual points to a mechanical clutch problem, and the differential has to come apart.
Manual Section: Electrical systems - Rear axle control system - Differential lock control solenoid - Troubleshooting p. 2230Low range clutch pressure loss after range transmission repair
If low range clutch pressure drops within the first 200 hours after a range transmission repair, suspect the rebuild. The range countershaft bearing may have gone in without the belleville spring compressed. The distributor hub or seal ring area may also have been damaged during the repair. Work through range countershaft disassembly in the Powershift transmission internal components section to find which one it is.
Manual Section: Transmission - Powershift transmission - Troubleshooting p. 302Frequently Asked Questions
What is the engine oil capacity on the Magnum 235-340 with a filter change?
The 9.0 l engine takes 25 l (6.6 US gal, 5.5 UK gal) with a filter change. The manual lists the same 25 l without a filter change. The same capacities page gives 26.5 l (7 US gal) for the cooling system and 172 l (45.5 US gal) for the Powershift transmission/hydraulic system. p. 18
What does the RESET key do when a Level 2 warning shows on the display?
It clears the warning text for 10 minutes, but the amber light stays on. Level 2 covers conditions that won't damage the tractor right away. If you leave them alone, they can grow into Level 1 critical faults. A Level 2 fault can also stop other systems from working. When one sets, the amber light flashes for 4 seconds, then stays on. RESET buys you time. It doesn't fix anything. p. 231
How do I clear fault code 3368, torque limitation due to a performance limiter?
Code 3368 means the ECU has put the engine in a limited performance state because of SCR inducement. Another fault code triggered it, so 3368 is not the root problem. Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST), pull the additional fault codes and troubleshoot those first. After the root fault is repaired, turn the keyswitch OFF, then ON. Whether the fault and warning messages come back decides which of two healing processes you follow. One uses the EST engine restart counter reset/unlock inducement screen under the configuration icon. After that screen, leave the keyswitch off for at least 2 min. That sequence alone is a reason to own the book. p. 4132
What torque do the front axle support pin locking plate bolts take on the Magnum 235-340?
On Dana heavy duty front axles, the support pin locking plate bolts take 90 - 107 Nm (66 - 79 lb ft). This spec is for the Dana heavy duty axle, so check which axle is under your tractor before you torque the bolts. p. 713
What output do the optional high flow and Twin Flow hydraulic pumps deliver?
The optional high flow PFC piston pump delivers up to 239 l/min (63 US gpm) at its rated 2820 RPM, which is 2000 engine RPM. The optional Twin Flow PFC piston pump tops out at 124 l/min (32.7 US gpm). It feeds only the fourth, fifth or sixth remote sections. A single remote passes at most 130 l/min (34.3 US gpm) with no steering demand. The priority regulator valve holds regulated pressure at 22.4 - 24.5 bar (325 - 355 psi). p. 1764
