Part of the Case IH Repair Manuals.
Strip, measure and rebuild your Case IH MXU or Maxxum tractor with the factory repair manual, Case IH part number 87659930, printed in 2007. It covers the MXU100 through MXU135 and the Maxxum 110 through 140. It also covers the F4DE common rail and F4CE mechanical engines, plus the 12 x 12, 16 x 16 and 24 x 24 transmissions.
When the hitch won't lift or a code shows on the ADIC cluster, it's usually just you and the tractor in the shed with nobody to ring. This book takes you through the H-menu diagnostic routines, calibration, wiring schematics, clutch, PTO, brakes, front axle suspension and air conditioning.
Sections follow the Case IH numbering: 21 is transmissions, 35 is hydraulics and 55 is electrical. Go straight to the one you need and get back in the field before the weather turns.

Case IH MXU100–MXU135, Maxxum 110–140 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Error code 0003: four wheel drive solenoid stuck off
Turn the key off and unplug 4WD solenoid connector C034. Turn the key on with 2WD selected and note which codes come up. Check for a short to ground between controller connector C128 pin 7 (Y/K) and ground. Then split inline connector C019 to find which harness is at fault. The solenoid should read 5 - 11 Ohms at 20 °C, so replace it if it doesn't. If the harness and solenoid are good, load the correct software level. If the fault comes back, replace the controller. Once it's fixed, clear the code and test the system.
Manual Section: Electrical system - Fault codes - Error code 0003 - Four wheel drive solenoid stuck off p. 3108Air conditioning evaporator air not cold, both gauges reading low
Low readings on both the low and high pressure sides with warm evaporator air point to a low refrigerant charge. Leak test and repair, evacuate the system, charge it with 1.1 kg of R134a and re-test. If the air is cool but not cold enough, the expansion valve may not be letting enough refrigerant through. Check the valve. If it's faulty, discharge the system, replace the valve, then evacuate, charge and re-test.
Manual Section: Auxiliary units - Air conditioning - Troubleshooting - Performance test diagnosis p. 2048Hydraulic lift not working correctly, or working erratically
Make sure the in-cab fast raise/work switch is in the work position. Check that the hitch enabled symbol is lit, and if it isn't, capture the hitch. If the charge pressure light is flashing, follow its own fault finding chart. Erratic lift can mean a leak, so run the pump leak test to tell an internal leak from a circuit leak. If the lift arms are locked fully raised or lowered, suspect a sticking plunger in the EDC valve raise or lower solenoid. Electronic draft control error codes are covered in section 55.
Manual Section: Hydraulic systems - Hydraulic lift not working correctly p. 1313No drive when a gear is selected and the clutch pedal is released
Engage the differential lock. If the tractor drives, the fault is in the output of the differential unit. If there's still no drive, suspect the transmission or rear axle. If FWD is fitted, engage it, and if the tractor drives, the transmission is O.K. If engine speed rises but road speed doesn't, the clutch friction disc is slipping. Check the clutch adjustment, then look for a worn friction disc or a faulty pressure plate.
Manual Section: Clutch - Troubleshooting - No drive when gear selected and clutch pedal released p. 542Frequently Asked Questions
How do I clear stored fault codes on a Case IH MXU or Maxxum?
Write down every stored code first, because clearing wipes the memory. Press the dimming key to select the HC menu, and the lower central display will show F CL. Press and hold the m key to confirm. The display counts down from 05 to 01, then shows EE to tell you the codes are cleared. If you let go of the m key before the countdown ends, the procedure aborts. p. 4294
What is the engine oil capacity on Case IH MXU Limited tractors?
The capacities quoted here are for the MXU Limited models only. The MXU100 and MXU110 take 10 litres (2.64 US gals) of engine oil including the filter. The MXU115, MXU125 and MXU135 take 15 litres (3.96 US gals). With a cab, the cooling system holds 23 litres (6.07 US gals) on the 100 and 110 and 25 litres (6.6 US gals) on the 115, 125 and 135. p. 116
What is the front wheel nut torque on Case IH MXU and Maxxum tractors?
Torque 2WD front wheel nuts to 314.0 Nm (230.0 lbf.ft). On a 4WD front axle the figure is 211.0 Nm (156.0 lbf.ft). Both values are in the steering tightening torques table. Check which axle you have before you pull on the wrench, because the two figures are a long way apart. p. 1961
How much R134a refrigerant does the air conditioning take?
The system runs on R134a and takes a 1.1 kg (2.4 lbs) charge. Section 50 also has troubleshooting tables organized by gauge reading. Use them to tell a low charge from a faulty expansion valve before you buy refrigerant. p. 2032
What are the hydraulic pump standby pressures?
On the variable flow pump, low pressure standby is 22 - 24 bar (319 - 348 lbf/in2). Maximum system pressure, also called high pressure standby, is 205 - 215 bar (2972 - 3118 lbf/in2). Minimum output at 2200 erpm is 95 - 105 Ltr/min with one remote valve. Take all three readings before you pull the pump, and you won't swap a good one by mistake. p. 1333
