Case IH service manual 47936458 is the November 2015 edition for Stage IV Puma 150, 165, 150 CVX, 165 CVX and 175 CVX tractors. Use it when the PTO won't engage, the diff lock won't hold or the brake pedal travels too far.

It covers the F4DFE613 engine, SCR and DEF/AdBlue, and the Semi-Powershift, Powershift and CVT transmissions. It also covers the front axle suspension, PTO, brakes, trailer air brakes, hitches and the cab. It includes hydraulic schematics, wiring schematics, self-diagnostics for the UCM, ACM and FSCM modules, and a fault code section. If you guess a clutch pressure or a head bolt torque, you can wreck the transmission or the engine.

Keep it on a tablet in the cab or a laptop in the shed. That way you have the right figure wherever the tractor broke down.

Case IH Puma 150, 165, 175 CVX Common Problems This Manual Covers

Differential lock not engaging

Check the rear axle oil level first and top it up to the correct level. If the level is right, fit a new oil filter, because a blocked filter can stop the lock. Then test the differential lock switch and confirm the solenoid has power. Only after that should you replace the hydraulic pump.

Manual Section: Powered rear axle - Troubleshooting p. 1167
The PTO does not operate

Start with the transmission oil level and correct it. If the PTO still won't drive, check for a blocked filter, a faulty pump, a bad PTO engagement switch, no power to the solenoid, a sticking solenoid or leaking seals. Replace whichever part is at fault, using the PTO troubleshooting chart.

Manual Section: Rear electro-hydraulic control - Troubleshooting p. 1294
Excessive brake pedal travel

Bleed the air out of the brake system first. If the pedal still travels too far, find and repair any oil leak. Then check the brake self adjusters and replace any that are loose. Worn brake master cylinders have to be replaced.

Manual Section: Hydraulic service brakes - Troubleshooting p. 1429
Evaporator air not cold

Check first for a low refrigerant charge. Leak test the system, repair any leak and recharge it to 1300 g (45.9 oz). If the charge holds and the air is still warm, replace the expansion valve if it is passing too much refrigerant. An internal compressor leak means you need a new compressor.

Manual Section: Air conditioning - Troubleshooting p. 1985

Frequently Asked Questions

How much engine oil does the Puma take and which oil is recommended?

The engine takes 15 l (3.96 US gal), including the filter. The recommended oil is CASE IH AKCELA UNITEK 10W-40 (MAT 3521). Check your fuel sulfur. Between 5 and 10 mg/kg, the oil change interval drops to half the normal interval. Above 10 mg/kg, it drops to one quarter of normal. p. 32

Which oil goes in the transmission and hydraulics of the Puma 150 and 165 Powershift, and how much?

The transmission and the hydraulics both use CASE IH AKCELA HY-TRAN ULTRACTION (MAT 3540). The Semi Powershift and Full Powershift tractors take 75 l (19.8 US gal). p. 32

How big are the fuel and DEF/AdBlue tanks?

The main fuel tank holds 264.0 L (69.7 US gal). The auxiliary fuel tank holds 64.0 L (16.9 US gal). The DEF/AdBlue tank holds 56.0 L (14.8 US gal). p. 32

What flow and pressure does the Puma hydraulic system deliver, and how much per remote valve?

On the Puma 150 and 165, the main pump delivers up to 113.0 L/min (29.9 US gpm) at up to 210.0 bar (3045.0 psi) at rated rpm. Expect 95 to 100 l/min at one remote valve. On CVT tractors, the pump delivers 148 L/min (39.1 US gpm) or 165 L/min (43.6 US gpm). p. 1510

What PTO speeds does the Puma have?

The rear PTO runs at 540 or 1000 rpm. The front PTO is fully independent and runs at 1000 rev/min. p. 1348
