Part of the John Deere Repair Manuals.
This is TM4861, the factory technical manual for John Deere 5215F, 5215V, 5315F/V, 5515F/V and 5615F/V orchard and vineyard tractors built 2004 to 2010. The big deal here: Deere usually splits these into two books, but this one carries both halves. You get the full Repair side (Sections 05 to 90: engine, fuel, electrical, 24/12 transmission, drive systems, steering, brakes, hydraulics, cab) plus the complete Operation and Tests side, including Section 211 Diagnostic Trouble Codes, Section 212 Observable Symptoms, Section 245 Electronic Control Units, and Section 290 Air Conditioning. That means you can pull a code, trace it, test the circuit, and then tear down and rebuild the component without buying a second manual.

John Deere 5215F-5615V Common Problems This Manual Covers
Engine overheating in the orchard, especially mid-season when the radiator screens load up with leaves and dust
Section 230 (Fuel, Air Intake and Cooling Systems) gives the cooling system tests: thermostat opening check, radiator and coolant circuit inspection, and air intake restriction checks. These narrow-body F/V tractors pull a lot of debris through tight grille openings, so the manual's test sequence separates a plugged core from a failed thermostat before you buy parts.
Manual Section: Fuel, AIR Intake AND Cooling Systems (Section 230) p. 957Engine cranks but will not start, or knocks after fuel system work
Section 220 (Engine Operation and Tests) walks the no-start diagnosis, and Section 30 (Fuel and Air Intake Systems Repair) covers injection pump removal, installation and timing. A desynchronized injection pump knocks and can damage the engine, so follow the Section 30 pump timing procedure exactly rather than setting it by ear.
Manual Section: Fuel AND AIR Intake Systems - Repair (Section 30) p. 99Engine knock or low oil pressure warning on the 3029 and 4045 engines
Section 220 (Engine Operation and Tests) has the oil pressure test procedure to confirm whether the problem is real before teardown. If pressure is actually low, Section 20 (Engine Repair) covers the oil pump, main and rod bearing inspection with wear limits, so you can decide between a bearing set and a full rebuild on measurements, not guesswork.
Manual Section: Engine - Repair (Section 20) p. 78Transmission fault code or erratic shifting on the 24/12-speed gearbox
Start in Section 211 (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) to identify what the controller is flagging, then move to Section 251 (24/12-Speed Transmission Operation and Tests) for the pressure tests and electrical checks. If a component fails the test, Section 51 gives the complete repair procedure for that transmission, including disassembly and adjustment.
Manual Section: 24/12-SPEED Transmission - Operation AND Tests (Section 251) p. 1947Frequently Asked Questions
My 5315F is throwing a fault on the dash. Does this manual actually explain the codes, or just tell me to see the dealer?
It explains them. Section 211 lists the diagnostic trouble codes for these tractors, Section 212 walks observable symptoms when there is no code, and Section 245 covers the electronic control units themselves. You get the diagnostic procedure, not a note to call Deere. For anything the tester finds, the matching repair section (20 to 90) has the fix. p. 865
Are the torque specs in here, like head bolts and flywheel bolts?
Yes. Each repair procedure in Sections 20 through 90 carries its fastener torques and tightening sequences right in the step where you need them. Section 20 handles the engine work (head, flywheel, mains, rods), Section 30 covers injectors and fuel lines, Section 70 the hydraulic fittings. You are not hunting a separate spec book.
Which engines does it cover? My 5515F has the 4-cylinder.
All four models, each with its own data. The 5215F/V and 5315F/V run the 3-cylinder 2940 cm3 engine (41 kW/56 hp and 49 kW/66.5 hp, engine model 3029TAT71 on the 5315). The 5515F/V and 5615F/V run the 4-cylinder 4530 cm3 (4045TAT70 at 60.5 kW/82 hp and 4045TAT71 at 66.5 kW/90.5 hp). Rated speed is 2300 rpm across the board, valve clearance 0.35 mm intake / 0.45 mm exhaust. p. 29
Does it cover the 24/12 transmission or just the base gearbox?
Both. Section 50 covers the standard transmission repair, and the 24/12-speed unit gets its own dedicated coverage: Section 51 for teardown and repair, Section 251 for operation, testing and troubleshooting. Clutch, shift linkage and related drive systems are in Section 56 and Section 250.
Is this a PDF I can search, and does it cover the cab and air conditioning?
It is the full technical manual in digital form, searchable by section. Cab and open operator station repair is Section 90, and the air conditioning system has its own operation and tests coverage in Section 290, which matters on these narrow F/V cabs where A/C work is tight and you want the procedure before you open the system.
