You will have the planetary carrier off the hub and this book open beside it within the hour: the John Deere 1100, 1150, Teammate II 2561R Technical Manual PDF, OEM number CTM44, 116 pages written for outboard planetary axles. Exploded views break the input quill, differential, and knuckle-spindle assembly down to the last thrust washer, and the teardown procedures run the length of the book, each one closing with the reassembly spec you need. Diagnosis work is covered too, including the air test of the axle assembly and the leakdown test on brake piston packings. Torque the planet pinion retaining screws to 310 N·m (229 lb-ft), and scrap that knuckle-spindle bushing once wear passes 75.155 mm (2.959 in.). Guessing costs a second teardown, or a ruined ring gear. Bookmarks drop you straight into Steering or Brakes, so your field window stays open.

John Deere TeamMate II 1100 & 1150 Axle Common Problems This Manual Covers

TeamMate II 1100 axle: MFWD front wheel turns with axle input but tire will not pull

Pull the planetary carrier and inspect the sun gear, planet pinions, and pins for stripped or spalled teeth as covered starting on page 29. Replace any gear set as a matched group. On reassembly, torque the planet pinion retaining screws to 310 N·m (229 lb-ft) and the carrier-to-hub cap screws to 126 N·m (92 lb-ft) before you head back to the field.

Manual Section: Planetary Carrier p. 30
Grinding, knocking, or metallic noise at the wheel end while pulling in field gear

Drain the wheel end and look for glitter or chunks in the oil before you tear anything down. Inspect the planet pins, bearings, and thrust washers per the carrier procedures on page 33. Clean every case surface, then torque the planet pinion retaining screws to 310 N·m (229 lb-ft) so the pins stay seated under load.

Manual Section: Planetary Carrier p. 33
Only one front wheel spins during MFWD engagement test, the other sits dead

Verify the drive shaft U-joints turn the axle input first, then check the U-joint yoke bushings against the 56.062 mm (2.207 in.) wear limit listed on page 41. If the bushings pass, move inboard and inspect the differential drive shaft and side bevel gears using the input quill procedures on page 61.

Manual Section: Input Quill and Differential p. 61
Repeated hub and axle shaft failure at the snap ring groove after a rebuild

Remove the hub and measure the knuckle-spindle bushing against the 75.155 mm (2.959 in.) wear limit on page 41. A worn bushing lets the shaft cock and load the snap ring. Then torque the ring gear hub retaining screws to 50 N·m (37 lb-ft).

Manual Section: Wheel Hubs, Knuckle-Spindle, and Axles p. 41
Oil weeping from the wheel end or axle housing joint after planetary service

Clean the housing and run the air test procedure on page 107 to find the leak path before you pull the whole axle apart. Replace the seals and O-rings, then torque the axle housing-to-differential case cap screws to 310 N·m (229 lb-ft). Refill the wheel end and recheck the level before the next pass.

Manual Section: Diagnosis and Testing p. 107
Front wheel drags or brake will not release after axle reassembly

Measure brake disk thickness and compare it to the 3.3 mm (0.130 in.) new dimension given on page 57. Replace any disk that is worn thin or heat glazed. Run the leakdown test on the brake piston packings using the procedure on page 107, then bleed the service brakes until the pedal comes up firm.

Manual Section: Brakes p. 57
