Case IH Farmall 65A–115A Common Problems This Manual Covers
Engine does not start
Start with the cheap checks the table lists: partly discharged batteries and corroded or loose battery terminals. Next, look for water or impurities in the fuel lines and air in the fuel system. After that the table points to the fuel supply pump, starter motor, thermostarter and injection pump timing. The Engine - Troubleshooting tables cover both the NEF and 8000 engines.

Engine - Troubleshooting first lists the causes you can fix in the yard: a slack pump/fan belt, low coolant and radiator deposits. Past those it points to the thermostat, coolant pump, a clogged air filter, incorrect engine timing and injection pump calibration. The Hydraulic systems troubleshooting table starts with a clogged oil filter and a jammed control valve, then a defective hydraulic pump. It also names the check valve seal, lift piston seals and a cylinder safety valve set too low. That safety valve should sit at 210 - 215 bar (3045 - 3117.5 psi). The lift relief valve is set at 186 - 191 bar.

Clutch - Troubleshooting lists worn clutch plates, a worn pressure plate and flywheel, a distorted Belleville spring, or oil and grease on the friction linings. If there is oil on the linings, find the leak before fitting new plates, or the new disc will slip too. What are the fluid capacities on the Farmall 65A through 115A?
The engine sump holds 7.6 l (2.01 US gal) on the 65A/75A, 8.5 l (2.25 US gal) on the 85A and 10 l (2.64 US gal) on the 95A/105A/115A. The rear transmission, gearbox, hydraulic lift and PTO share one 46 l (12.15 US gal) fill of CASE IH AKCELA NEXPLORE FLUID. The fuel tank holds 110 l (29.06 US gal). p. 14
What is the valve clearance on the Case IH Farmall 65A-115A engine?
Set it with the engine cold. The 8000 three-cylinder in the 65A/75A takes 0.25 - 0.35 mm on both intake and exhaust. The NEF four-cylinder in the 95A/105A/115A takes 0.20 - 0.30 mm intake and 0.45 - 0.55 mm exhaust. If you set a NEF exhaust valve to the intake figure, it ends up too tight. p. 22
What is the torque spec for the front wheel hub bearing lock nut on a Case IH Farmall 65A-115A?

How do I check injection pump timing on the NEF engine?
The NEF check uses tools 380000988 and 380000732, with the flywheel pinned at TDC on cylinder No.1. The fuel injection system part of the Engine section walks you through the procedure. The troubleshooting tables list bad pump timing as a cause of hard starting and black smoke. They list incorrect engine timing as a cause of overheating. p. 229
Does the manual include wiring diagrams?
Yes. The electrical section has wire harness schematic frames 01 through 11, split between 8000 series and NEF/F5A engine tractors. A starting or charging fault is much quicker to trace with the right frame for your engine open beside you. That alone is a reason to own the book. p. 954
