Case IH Steiger 370–620, Quadtrac 470–620 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Cab A/C blowing warm with the low side and high side gauges both reading low
The problem solving table in Cab Climate Control says the system is low on refrigerant. Find and repair the leak first, then check the compressor oil level. Evacuate the system and recharge it with R134a. The charge is 1.9 kg (4.2 lb) on all models.
Manual Section: Air conditioning problem solving p. 3098A/C low side pressure reads high while the high side reads low
Cab Climate Control points to a compressor malfunction. Check power and ground at the compressor and make sure the clutch engages. If the compressor has an internal leak, recover the refrigerant and replace the compressor and the receiver/drier. Then evacuate and recharge the system.
Manual Section: Air conditioning problem solving p. 3099A/C cools in the morning and gives out in the afternoon, with low side reading low and high side reading high
Cab Climate Control says this means non-condensables, air and/or moisture, are in the system. The usual sign is intermittent cooling that only works in the cooler part of the day. Recover the refrigerant, replace the receiver/drier, then evacuate and recharge.
Manual Section: Air conditioning problem solving p. 3099A/C low side and high side pressures both reading high
The Cab Climate Control problem solving table points to an overcharged system. Recover the refrigerant and recharge with the specified charge of R134a. If the readings stay high, the other two causes in the table are a faulty thermal expansion valve and poor air flow across the condenser.

Does this manual cover my Case IH Steiger or Quadtrac?
It covers the Steiger 370, 420, 470, 500, 540, 580 and 620 and the Quadtrac 470, 500, 540, 580 and 620 Tier 4B (final) tractors, PIN ZEF300001 and above. The part number is 47680528, 1st edition, March 2014. The applicability list includes heavy duty wheeled, wheeled scraper, Steiger 500 QT and Quadtrac models. Your PIN plate is on the right front side plate, just ahead of the front axle. p. 1
What are the fluid capacities on the Steiger and Quadtrac?
Engine oil with filter takes 25 l (6.6 US gal) on the 9L engine and 27.25 l (7.2 US gal) on all other models. The cooling system holds 50 l (13.2 US gal) on the 9L, 57.6 l (15.2 US gal) on the 13L single turbo and 70 l (18.4 US gal) on the 13L twin turbo. Transmission oil is 63 l (16.6 US gal) on the 370, 420, 470 or standard 500, and 68 l (18 US gal) on the 500 Scraper, 540, 580 and 620. The hydraulic and axle system takes 237 l (62.5 US gal) on the 370, 250 l (66 US gal) on the 420 to 620 and 314 l (83 US gal) on the Quadtrac. p. 37
What pressures does the manual give for the transmission, PTO, hydraulic pump and steering?
Powershift transmission main pressure is 18.6 - 20.7 bar (270 - 300 psi) at 1000 RPM. PTO clutch pressure is 14.8 - 18.3 bar (215 - 265 psi) at 1000 RPM. High pressure standby on the standard PFC pump is 3000 - 3090 psi (207 - 213 bar). Steering pilot relief is 18271 - 18961 kPa (2650 - 2750 psi). Maximum system pressure is 210 bar (3050 psi). p. 339
What are the wheel, track and transmission mounting torques?
On a flange axle without a dual hub spacer, torque the wheel to hub bolts to 529 - 569 N·m (390 - 420 lb ft). On the Quadtrac, lubed idler wheel mounting bolts take 665 - 745 N·m (490 - 550 lb ft). Lubed alignment plate mounting bolts take 678 - 793 N·m (500 - 585 lb ft). Transmission mounting bolts on small frame tractors take 282 - 319 N·m (208 - 235 lb ft). p. 2846
Does the manual include wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics and fault codes?
Yes. It has a one-sheet hydraulic schema of the whole machine, a tow/park brake valve schematic, and a power steering schematic with secondary steering. The electrical schematic frames include frame 24 (starting and charging), frame 31 (engine) and frame 37 (TCU controller power and ground). The fault codes section gives each code its own card listing cause and solution. p. 3179
