Every one of the 308 pages in this John Deere 110, 112 Service Manual PDF covers your Lawn and Garden Tractor, from the Kohler and Tecumseh engines to the 3-speed and 4-speed transaxles. You get factory wiring diagrams for the ignition, charging, and motor-generator circuits, hydraulic schematics for the control valve, pump, and cylinder, plus exploded views throughout. Inside: carburetor and fuel system procedures, clutch and brake work, variable speed drive, differential teardown, steering linkage, and full bolt torque charts. Gap the Kohler spark plug at 0.025 in., the Tecumseh at 0.030 in., and set breaker points to 0.020 in. before you chase that miss any further. No more diagnosing a dead charging circuit with a multimeter and a prayer. Bookmarked and keyword-searchable; download it, pull it up on your phone at the bench, and get back to mowing.

John Deere 110, 112 Common Problems This Manual Covers

John Deere 110 engine cranks but won't start, no spark at plug

Remove the flywheel screen and check the breaker points first. Replace pitted points and set the gap to 0.020 in., the spec on page 12. Gap a new plug to 0.025 in. for the Kohler engine and torque it to 27 ft-lbs cold. Still no spark? Test coil secondary continuity, 3.9 to 4.08 ohms.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting (Kohler)
Engine surges at full throttle and stumbles at idle after sitting all winter

Drain the float bowl and pull the carburetor for a full cleaning; gum from stale fuel plugs the idle circuit. Clean the fuel strainer and sediment bowl while the tank is drained. After reassembly set idle speed to 1200-1700 rpm and high speed no load to 3800 rpm, the specs on page 129.

Manual Section: Fuel System p. 121
Hydraulic lift raises the mower deck slowly and leaks down within minutes

Check reservoir fluid level first, then run the engine and inspect every line and fitting for seepage. Verify the relief valve opens at 800 (-0 +100) psi, covered on page 257. If the valve checks good and the deck still drops, replace the cylinder seals. Torque the relief valve plug to 20-25 ft-lbs on reassembly.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System p. 255
Battery discharges overnight and the motor-generator shows no charging output at the regulator

Check battery connections for corrosion and load test the battery before blaming the charging system. Trace the charging circuit with the wiring diagram on page 144 and confirm generator output at the regulator. If the motor-generator needs rebuilding, torque the thru bolts to 170-200 in-lbs during reassembly.

Manual Section: Electrical System p. 141
Steering wheel has excessive free play and front tires scrub during tight turns

Inspect tie rod ends for slop with the front end jacked up; worn ends are a known weak point on these tractors. Check the steering gear housing for leaks and adjust gear mesh before replacing parts. Torque the steering gear plug to 7-12 ft-lbs, the spec on page 293, then grease the spindles.

Manual Section: Steering Linkage Troubleshooting p. 293

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I adjust the belt drive/variator on a John Deere 110 or 112?

To adjust the variator linkage, place the variable speed lever in notch 3 on the quadrant. Measure the distance between the bottom of the footrest and the top of the clutch-brake arm; this should be 1/2 inch. Adjust the rod or clevis at 'D' or 'A' until this 1/2 inch dimension is achieved, as detailed on page 55. p. 55

How do I troubleshoot a no-start or weak spark on a John Deere 110/112?

If the engine will not start, remove the ignition cable from the spark plug and hold it approximately 1/4 inch away from the spark plug terminal while cranking. If there is no spark or a weak spark, the issue is likely in the electrical system, specifically the breaker points or condenser. Clean or replace the points and adjust the gap to 0.020 inch. p. 23

What is the correct cylinder head bolt torque for the Kohler engine in a 110 tractor?

The cylinder head bolts for the Kohler engine in the 110 tractor should be torqued to 200 inch-pounds. p. 41

What is the correct valve clearance for the Tecumseh engine in a 112 tractor?

The valve clearance for both the intake and exhaust valves on the Tecumseh HH100 engine (cold) is 0.010 inch. p. 91

What is the fuel tank capacity for the 110 and 112 tractors?

The fuel tank capacity for both the 110 and 112 tractors is 1.9 U.S. gallons. p. 7
