Hydraulics lose lift, act slow, or leave oil on the ground
Follow the diagnostic test sequence in the Hydraulic System section for no lift, slow function, or hot oil, then check the listed external leak points: loose pipes, O-rings, shaft seals, cracked housings, before condemning the pump.

Start with the transmission oil filter: when it blocks completely the bypass opens, oil never reaches the shift cover, and the light glows. The Power Train section covers the filter, shift cover, and pressure checks in order.

That is the built in protection, not a random fault: below 500 to 700 kPa system pressure the unit shifts to low to keep the disks from slipping and burning. The manual shows how to test pressure and find why it fell.

My 2140 has weak or no hydraulic lift. Does this manual actually help me chase it down?
Yes, and this is where the book earns its money. It lays out a full test sequence for no hydraulics, slow hydraulic function, and overheated hydraulic oil, then lists the external leak suspects to check first: broken or loose pipes, leaking O-rings and seals, cracked housings. On these tractors weak lift is usually worn seals or a leak somewhere, not one dead part, so a structured test order beats swapping parts blind. p. 899
The transmission oil pressure light came on. What does the manual say to check?
One documented cause on the 2140: a fully blocked transmission oil filter. The bypass valve opens, no oil reaches the transmission shift cover, and the indicator light glows. The manual walks you through the filter, the oil circuit, and the shift cover so you can rule out the cheap fix before pulling anything heavy apart. Related note: the Hi-Lo unit deliberately drops to low range if system pressure falls below 500 to 700 kPa to protect its disks, so odd range behavior can also point back to pressure. p. 489
Are there real wiring diagrams, or just a parts style sketch?
Full printed wiring diagrams for the Bilux lighting system with numbered connections, plus sections on the twin 12 volt batteries (55 or 66 Ah), alternator, starting motor, and the harnesses themselves. This is a fully mechanical 1980s tractor, so there are no fault codes to read, tracing wires with the diagram is how you fix electrics on it, and this book is the only place those diagrams live. p. 360
Can I adjust the clutch pedal myself with this manual?
Yes, it is a simple job once you see the procedure. The manual has you set free travel to about 25 mm (1 inch) by slackening the hex nut, pulling the clevis pin, and turning the yoke on the clutch rod. It also covers full clutch removal and overhaul if the adjustment no longer takes up the wear, which requires splitting the tractor, and the separation procedure is in the General section. p. 31
Does it cover my transmission? The 2140 came with several options.
All of them. The Power Train section covers the synchronized and collar shift transmissions, the Hi-Lo shift unit, and the creeper transmission, plus the differential, final drives, and PTO.
