John Deere 2650 steering goes heavy or locks up at low rpm, worse in Hi-Lo hi split
Test the transmission oil pump before condemning the steering valve. A Hi-Lo tractor should deliver 42 liters/min at 2000 rpm with oil at 40°C; low flow starves the priority circuit feeding the steering. If delivery checks out, run the hydrostatic steering tests starting on page 603 before you replace the orbital unit.

Check Hi-Lo circuit pressure while the light is on; a leaking Hi-Lo brake seal bleeds off clutch pressure under load. Measure clutch pedal free travel and adjust the linkage to 25 mm, spec on page 39, before splitting anything. If free travel is right and the tractor still creeps, the clutch is dragging internally; separate the tractor and inspect the disk and release bearing using the Power Train procedures beginning on page 362.
