TM12802 diagnoses and tests the John Deere 328E and 332E skid steer loaders with EH controls and the Yanmar 4TNV94CHT engine. It covers diagnostic trouble codes for the ECU, EMU, HCU, JSL, JSR, SSM and VCU controllers. On an EH loader, a code tells you which controller complained, not what broke. The hard part is getting from an SPN.FMI number to the right circuit, connector and test. This book lays out each code alongside circuit diagnostics, harness drawings and spec values.

John Deere 328E, 332E Common Problems This Manual Covers
Slow boom or bucket, or lift arms that drift down under load
Run the cylinder leakage test in the Hydraulic system section. Maximum allowed leakage is 5 mL/min. (0.2 oz./min.). If the cylinders pass, the relief valve and charge pump flow tests are in the same section.

Check fuse F31 first. The fuse and relay specifications list it as the glow plug fuse, rated 80 A. The same table gives F3 ECU unswitched power 25 A and F15 switched power 15 A. From there, trace the start assist circuit through the functional schematics and harness location drawings.

Measure wheel speed as the Hydrostatic system section describes, at fast idle with hydraulic oil at 43°C (110°F). Single speed should read 65-75 rpm on both models. Two speed is 110-120 rpm on the 328E and 105-115 rpm on the 332E. If wheel speed varies more than 1 rpm from side to side, the book calls for a tracking adjustment. If speeds stay out of range after that, it points to the park brake release pressure, hydrostatic pump flow and motor case drain tests.

Check charge pressure before chasing individual circuits. The charge pressure relief valve should hold 3400-4800 kPa (34-48 bar) (500-700 psi) at fast idle with hydraulic oil at 43°C (110°F). If it is low, run the charge pump flow test in the same section before testing anything downstream.

The hydraulic system relief valve spec is 23 097-24 476 kPa (231-245 bar) (3350-3550 psi). Take the reading with hydraulic oil at 43°C (110°F) and the engine at fast idle. The test calls for a JT02162 34 000 kPa (350 bar) (5000 psi) transducer. A reading taken on cold oil will not match the spec. p. 877
What does code 522243.02 mean on a 328E?
It is an ECU code for Start Assist / Relay. The engine control unit has detected that the glow plug relay (K2) driver circuit is invalid. The ECU flagged the circuit it drives, so start at K2 and its wiring before you pull glow plugs. The ECU DTC section covers the checks. p. 62
What are the cycle times for a 328E skid steer?
Run it with hydraulic oil at 43°C (110°F) and the engine speed control dial at fast idle. The 328E maximums are boom raise 4.2 sec, boom lower 2.6 sec, bucket curl 2.4 sec and bucket dump 1.7 sec. The 332E figures are listed with them. If a function is slower than these, go to the hydraulic tests. p. 334
What should park brake release pressure be on a 332E?
Typical for a new machine is 2757 kPa (27.5 bar) (400 psi). The minimum is 1517 kPa (15.2 bar) (220 psi). The book has you confirm charge pressure first, because the spring-applied park brake is released by charge pressure. p. 983
How do I read codes from the controllers on these loaders?
You can read them on the monitor or with Service ADVISOR. The Service ADVISOR connector (X40) is in the upper left corner of the operator's station.
