Part of the John Deere Repair Manuals.
This is the Diagnosis and Tests manual (TM607119) for John Deere 5083E and 5093E utility tractors, 2010-2017. It is the book you open when the tractor acts up and you need to know why: symptom charts for engine, starting, charging, PowrReverser and diff lock complaints, full CCU and PTR trouble code diagnostics, wiring schematics, and live-value addresses you read straight off the instrument cluster. It gives real test numbers - pump flow, relief pressures, solenoid resistances, sensor voltages - so you test instead of guess. Be clear on scope: this is the diagnostic companion to the repair manual. It finds the failed part; teardown and rebuild steps live in the repair book. Procedures are split by serial number, PM and PY builds.

John Deere 5083E / 5093E Common Problems This Manual Covers
PowrReverser is slow to engage, slips under load, or shifts harshly between forward and reverse.
The Transmission section walks you through preliminary and operational checks, installing test equipment, and the PowrReverser control valve tests. Verify pump flow (26.6 L/min at 2400 rpm) and main relief (20 bar), then check the forward high clutch fill pressure against its 51-500 kPa adjustment range. Electrically, the forward/reverse solenoids should draw 1.0-1.5 A energized with 12.0-18.0 ohm coils.
Manual Section: Transmission (pages 781-853) and Control Units p. 806Hitch will not lift, lifts slowly, or drops on its own with an implement attached.
The Hydraulics section covers pump and filter operation, rockshaft control valve operation and the surge relief valve. Test pump flow against 47.6-60 L/min and main relief against 190-197 bar, run the hitch settling check (max 3.0 mm drop in 15 minutes on 50 mm cylinders), and set the position-sensing feedback linkage to 416 +/- 4 mm if position control is off.
Manual Section: Hydraulics (pages 921-1010) p. 936Battery goes flat, charge light stays on, or electrical gremlins across the cluster and controllers.
System Diagnosis and the Electrical System section give the test procedures, connector checks and full wiring schematics. Verify alternator output (70 A open station / 90 A cab at 13.2 V) and regulated voltage of 14.2-14.8 V, then check sensor supply (4.80-5.20 V, key in RUN) and CAN bus levels (CAN Hi 2.50-3.50 V) before condemning a control unit.
Manual Section: Electrical System (pages 287-562) p. 301Cab air conditioning blows warm on a 5083E/5093E with a cab.
The Operator Station section covers the whole refrigerant circuit: compressor, condenser, receiver/dryer, expansion valve, thermostat switch, evaporator and the high/low pressure switch. Check the compressor clutch air gap against 0.35-0.65 mm and the test coupling valve stem depth of 7-7.6 mm before connecting gauges, then work the circuit component by component.
Manual Section: Operator Station (pages 1011-1066) p. 1039Frequently Asked Questions
Does this manual list the John Deere 5083E and 5093E error codes, and how do I read them?
Yes. The Control Units section carries the full diagnostic trouble code listing for the CCU (Chassis Control Unit) and PTR (Power Train Reverser) controller, plus the code-by-code diagnostic procedures in the Diagnostic Trouble Codes section. Better than the codes alone is the address workflow: you call up live values on the display by CCU or PTR address - for example address 065 shows engine coolant temperature from -40 to 125 C, and address 058 shows rear PTO speed from 0 to 1200 rpm. That means you watch what the sensor actually reports instead of guessing whether it failed. p. 637
How do I reset the error codes or the dashboard on a 5093E?
Straight answer: there is no magic reset that fixes anything. A CCU or PTR code that keeps coming back has a live cause, and this manual is built to find it - each code has a diagnostic procedure that walks the circuit with a meter. Clear the fault (a chafed wire, a bad connector, a solenoid out of the 8.0-14.0 ohm range on the rear PTO, for example) and the code stops setting. The book gives you the connector and circuit checks and the wiring schematics to do exactly that. p. 501
Are torque specs and general machine specifications in this book?
Be honest with yourself before buying: no. This is a Diagnosis and Tests manual, and it explicitly sends you to the Operator's Manual for general machine specifications. Rebuild torque values live in the separate repair manual, and some deep transmission work points to the PowrReverser CTM. What this book carries instead are test specifications - pressures, flows, voltages, resistances, adjustment values - which is what you need to decide whether a component is bad before you ever pick up a torque wrench. p. 56
What actual test numbers will I get for the hydraulics and transmission?
Real ones you can put a gauge on today. Hydraulic pump flow is 47.6-60 L/min (12.6-16 gpm) and main relief pressure is 18995-19685 kPa (190-197 bar, 2755-2855 psi). The PowrReverser has its own circuit: pump flow 26.6 L/min at 2400 rpm and main relief at 2000 kPa (20 bar, 290 psi). Steering relief is 130-135 bar with 19.1-24.9 L/min flow. There is even a hitch settling wear limit - a 50 mm cylinder may drop no more than 3.0 mm in 15 minutes - so you can judge internal leakage without opening anything. p. 936
Do the procedures fit my exact tractor? Mine is a 2015 build.
Check your PIN first - this matters. The procedures throughout the book are split by serial number break: PM builds (-009999) and PY builds (010000-) get separate steps, wiring and values in many sections. Follow the wrong branch and you will chase a test value that was never right for your machine. The manual covers both branches for the 5083E and 5093E across the 2010-2017 run, cab and open station, including separate fuel system operation coverage for each station type. p. 809
