Part of the New Holland Operator Manuals.
This 256-page New Holland T4020 operator manual PDF (OEM ID 47394627) covers four tractors in the range, T4020 through T4050. Service intervals run from the 10-hour checks to the 1800-hour items, set out in a lubrication table with the instrument panel warning lights decoded in the same chapter. Field chapters cover the three-point linkage, independent and synchronized PTO, differential lock, rear remotes, ballast and maximum permitted weights, while the troubleshooting chart sorts faults by engine, electrical, hydraulic lift and brakes. Hold the air line under 5 bar when you blow out the filter element, and give the fuel filter three quarters of a turn (15 Nm). Bookmarked and text-searchable, the file travels in your cab on a phone or tablet.

New Holland T4020, T4030, T4040, T4050 Common Problems This Manual Covers
New Holland T4020-T4050 engine coolant temperature warning sounds with icon on display while working under load
Stop the engine immediately and let it cool. Page 28 warns the cooling system is pressurised, so use a cloth and unscrew the cap slowly to release pressure. Clean a clogged radiator core, top up the expansion tank, check for leaks, replace a defective cap and check the fan belt tensioning device following page 221. If the warning persists, do not use the tractor; call your dealer.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 221Transmission oil temperature warning icon comes on with audible alarm during field work
Drop the engine to idle for 2 to 3 minutes, then switch off and check that the transmission oil cooler is not clogged, as page 79 directs. Clean it if needed. Check transmission oil level, top up, and renew the filter if necessary, tightening it 3/4 of a turn by hand per page 186. Wait for hot components to cool and wear gloves (page 23). If the signal does not stop, call your dealer.
Manual Section: Operating Faults and Solutions p. 79Starter motor turns slowly or does not work at all when turning the key
Move the gear lever to neutral first. Page 29 warns never to start the engine by shorting across the starter terminals. Clean and tighten loose or corroded connections, wearing eye protection and avoiding sparks around the battery. Check that battery charge is at least 12.6 volts and check electrolyte level and specific gravity following page 223. Charge or replace batteries that are totally flat.
Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting p. 223Battery charge light stays on with engine running and batteries not charging
Check idle speed first; a low idle keeps the light on, so increase it. Inspect the alternator belt tensioning device and replace a loose or worn belt following page 223. Wear eye protection and avoid sparks at the battery (page 29), then clean and tighten terminals and confirm at least 12.6 volts. If it still won't charge, have your dealer check the alternator before you're stuck mid-harvest.
Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting p. 223Hydraulic lift operates slowly in draft control or three-point linkage will not move with lever
Adjust the combined draft/position control first; an incorrect setting is listed for slow lift operation on page 226. If the linkage won't move at all, check that the linkage cylinder tubes are connected correctly and reduce the load. Adjust implement settings if the implement isn't working properly. If lowering speed stays too slow, have the control valve checked by your dealer.
Manual Section: Hydraulic Lift and Three-Point Linkage Troubleshooting p. 226Remote hydraulics do not work or hydraulic fluid overheats after hooking up an implement
Check that hoses are connected correctly, then actuate the control levers and check oil flow in the half couplers. If the problem persists, replace the male couplers with standard ISO 1/2 inch connectors from your dealer, per page 225. For overheating, correct a fluid level that is too high or low, replace a clogged filter element and set flow regulation to a lower capacity.
Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting p. 225Frequently Asked Questions
