New Holland T7030, T7040, T7050, T7060 Common Problems This Manual Covers

New Holland T7030 to T7060 engine will not start or is difficult to start on cold mornings

Check fuel level, replace clogged fuel filter elements and bleed the fuel system to purge air from the lines, per page 438. Clean and bleed the system if fuel is contaminated. In cold weather follow the Cold Weather Starting instructions; page 31 warns that ether or other flammable starting aids can explode on a tractor fitted with a cold weather starting aid. Fuel pump or injector trouble goes to your authorised dealer.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 438
Engine overheats under heavy draft load in the field with coolant level running low

Check the load first: shift to a lower gear or reduce draft load or ballast. Stop the engine and let it cool. Page 31 says never open either cap while running or hot, remove the recovery tank cap first, and loosen it slowly with a thick cloth. Fill the recovery tank, check hoses for leaks, clean the radiator core and check fan belt tension per pages 439 and 440. Coolant capacity is 26 litres (page 457).

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 439
Transmission gear shifting turns jerky and inching control on the clutch pedal feels poor

Perform the transmission clutch calibration procedure, which is the correction the fault chart on page 441 gives for jerky shifting and poor inching. If an error code shows, recalibrate the transmission or take that code to your authorised dealer. Check transmission oil level and add as required; drain and refill if the grade or viscosity is wrong. Calibrate before you condemn hardware and get back in the field.

Manual Section: Transmission Troubleshooting p. 441
Hydraulic oil overheats during long field days running implements off the remote hydraulics

Check hydraulic oil level with the key turned OFF, as page 35 requires before any service. Adjust the level, since both too low and too high cause overheating per page 442. Clean a blocked hydraulics oil cooler and replace blocked oil filters. If the flow control was set wrong, allow the oil to cool and adjust flow control before working again. A hydraulic load not matched to the tractor goes to your dealer.

Manual Section: Hydraulics Troubleshooting p. 442
Three-point hitch does not move with the control lever or will not raise fully

Check that the lift control lever is in phase with the lower links and put it back in phase if not, then adjust the height limit control, per page 443. Verify the fast raise switch is not left in the external control position. When testing the external power lift controls, page 33 says stand to the side outboard of the tires, never on or near the implement or between it and the tractor. Error codes go to your dealer.

Manual Section: Three-Point Hitch Troubleshooting p. 443
Starter cranks the engine slowly or does not turn at all when keyed

Wear eye protection and avoid sparks at the battery; page 32 warns battery gas can explode and the acid is corrosive. Clean and tighten battery and starter motor connections, then measure open circuit voltage for a minimum of 12.6 volts and check electrolyte level and specific gravity, per page 445. Charge or replace dead batteries. If the starter will not turn, place all gear shift levers in neutral and fully depress the clutch pedal.

Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting p. 445

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the transmission fault codes on a New Holland T7030, T7040, T7050, or T7060?

To recall or clear active warnings that are not permanently displayed, use the CAL/SEL button or the Enhanced Keypad. If an error occurs while in auto mode, the sequence is stopped and the relevant code is displayed; press the auto function push button or the upshift/downshift button to clear the error. p. 139

How do I reset the service reminder on a New Holland T7000 tractor?

The service reminder can be reset by selecting 'Service done' in the Service screen on the colour display. This will reset the counter and update the maintenance history. p. 137

Why will the New Holland T7040 not start or crank?

The engine may not start if the shuttle lever is not in neutral or the clutch pedal is not fully depressed, as these are safety interlocks. Additionally, check for low fuel, air in the fuel lines, or a loose/corroded battery connection. p. 192

How do I calibrate the Power Command transmission on a New Holland T7000 series tractor?

Calibration should be performed at the 50-hour service or if gear shift quality deteriorates. With the operator in the seat, depress and hold the clutch pedal, then depress and hold both transmission upshift and downshift buttons while starting the engine to initiate the calibration mode. p. 415

What are the engine oil and filter replacement specifications for the New Holland T7030, T7040, T7050, T7060 tractor?

The engine oil capacity is 15.0 litres (3.96 U.S. gallons). When installing a new filter, apply a thin coat of oil to the sealing ring, tighten until it contacts the mounting surface, and then tighten an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn. p. 391
