Part of the New Holland Operator Manuals.
Grease fittings, battery electrolyte checks and the rest of the routine service are laid out in the 124-page New Holland TC31DA, TC34DA operator manual PDF (OEM 87544698). Wiring diagrams trace the electrical circuits from the battery and starting system out to the lights and instruments, so a no-crank or dead lamp gets followed wire by wire. Past the safety chapter and a table of minimum hardware tightening torques, you'll find operating guidance on controls, starting and tractor hydraulics; fuel, lubricant and cooling system service; and a delivery report covering tire pressure, hydraulic lift control and PTO engagement. Check low idle at 1100 ± 50 RPM and high idle at 2840 ± 25 RPM, and fit only a 0.9 bar (13 PSI) radiator cap. Chapter bookmarks and a searchable text layer get you straight to the right page.

New Holland TC31DA, TC34DA Common Problems This Manual Covers
New Holland TC31DA and TC34DA engine will not crank when the key is turned to start
Check that the rear PTO and mid PTO are OFF and the range lever is in NEUTRAL. The key switch on page 27 only activates the starter and fuel delivery under those conditions. Sit in the operator's seat to start, never standing beside the tractor. Do not run the starter more than 30 seconds at a time, and never bypass the neutral start switches (page 9).
Manual Section: Starting the Engine p. 27Engine shuts off about two seconds after the operator leaves the seat
Check the range lever and move it to NEUTRAL before you climb down. The table on page 28 shuts the engine down whenever the transmission is in gear or the mid PTO is ON. The rear PTO can stay ON with the lever in NEUTRAL. Verify the park brake is applied before dismounting (page 35), or the alarm will sound.
Manual Section: Starting the Engine p. 28Fuel system full of air after the tractor runs out of fuel or a new filter element goes in
Fill the tank with adequate fuel and open the fuel shutoff valve. Open the bleed screw at the injection pump and close it when air-free fuel flows, following page 67. Push the hand throttle to high speed and turn the engine over a few seconds to bleed the high pressure tubes. Check for leaks with cardboard, never your hand; injection fuel can penetrate skin (page 63).
Manual Section: Bleeding Air From the Fuel System p. 67Fan belt slipping, cracked, or frayed and the engine running too hot in the field
Check belt deflection with the engine off: 9 to 11 kg (20 to 25 lb) midway between the pulleys should deflect it 10 to 15 mm, per page 75. Replace a cracked or frayed belt. To tighten, loosen the alternator mounting bolts, pry the alternator out, and retighten; never loosen or tighten those bolts with the engine running (page 76). Keep radiator fins clear of chaff.
Manual Section: Fan Belt Adjustment p. 75Radiator coolant level low at the daily check, more than 4 cm below the filler neck
Check coolant with the engine cold, daily or every 10 hours. Never remove the radiator cap hot: cover it with a thick cloth, turn it slowly counterclockwise to the first stop, and let all pressure escape (page 73). Fill with a 50/50 ethylene glycol and water mix to about 4 cm below the filler neck, no higher. Clean the cap seal and keep the fins clear of chaff.
Manual Section: Cooling System Maintenance p. 73Battery found drained after shutdown with the warning lights still on and the key not turned OFF
Turn the key switch fully OFF once the engine stops; page 29 notes the warning lights stay on and discharge the battery otherwise. Check that connections are tight and free of corrosion, wash terminals with baking soda and water, then coat with petroleum jelly. Check electrolyte with the engine off and no flame or smoking, topping up with distilled water to 6.35 mm above the plates (page 78).

What do the dashboard warning lights mean on the New Holland TC31DA and TC34DA?
The instrument panel includes several warning lights. The Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light illuminates with the key in the 'ON' position and should go out after starting; if it lights during operation, stop the engine immediately (page 25). The Battery Charge Warning Light indicates the charging system is not operating normally if it stays lit after starting (page 25). The PTO On Indicator illuminates amber when the rear or mid PTO is engaged (page 25). p. 25
What is the correct valve clearance for the engine on a New Holland TC31DA, TC34DA tractor?
The intake and exhaust valve clearance for both the TC31DA and TC34DA models is 0.20 mm (0.008 in) when cold. p. 108
What is the transmission and rear axle oil capacity on the New Holland TC31DA, TC34DA HST model?
The H.S.T. transmission, rear axle, and hydraulic system share a common sump with a capacity of 33.3 liters (8.8 U.S. gals.). p. 71
How often should the engine oil and filter be changed?
Change the engine oil and filter after the first 50 hours of operation, then every 100 hours thereafter. Under severe operating conditions, the interval should be reduced to 70 hours. p. 64
What is the correct fan belt tension for the tractor?
When 9 - 11 kg (20 - 25 lb) of pressure is applied midway between the belt pulleys, a correctly tightened belt will deflect 10 - 15 mm (7/16 - 9/16 in). p. 75
