Part of the New Holland Operator Manuals.
Keeping a tractor on schedule from planting to harvest is the job the 230 pages of this New Holland G170 operator manual PDF (OEM 603.64.331.00) are built for, across four models from the G170 up to the G240. Your service schedule runs from the 10-hour daily check to the 2400-hour/24-month interval, with the lubrication chart and air cleaner servicing laid out plainly. Instrument cluster fault codes and operator prompts are decoded in the trouble-shooting chapter, while the operating chapters set up the powershift transmission, independent PTO, remote valves, MegaFlow couplers, three-point hitch, ballast and tyre pressures. Fill the engine with 21 litres (4.6 imp. gallons) of oil, and keep the air line at 2 bar (30 lbf/in²) when blowing out the filter element. Bookmarked and keyword-searchable, the PDF takes you straight to the fault code.

New Holland G170, G190, G210, G240 Common Problems This Manual Covers
New Holland G170, G190, G210, G240 engine will not start or is difficult to start
Review the starting procedure: sit in the seat, apply the parking brake firmly, put the Powershift lever in neutral and make sure everyone is clear (page 89). Check fuel level, bleed air from the fuel lines, clean the sedimenter and replace a clogged fuel filter following page 199. Never use ether with Thermostart installed; it will explode in the intake manifold (page 90). Injector or fuel solenoid faults are dealer work.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 199Engine overheats under load in the field with coolant recovery tank running low
Clean the radiator core using 100 lbf/in² (7 bar) air or water pressure as page 152 specifies. Fill the coolant recovery tank, check the cooling system for leaks and tighten any leaking hose connection. Check the automatic fan belt tensioner, replace a worn belt or faulty radiator cap, and shift to a lower gear or reduce load to keep working, following page 200.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 200Charge indicator lamp stays on with the engine running and batteries not charging
Check the automatic belt tensioner and replace a loose or worn belt. Clean and tighten loose or corroded terminal connections, then check battery open circuit voltage for 12.6 volts minimum, plus electrolyte level and specific gravity, following page 202. Wear eye protection near batteries; if acid contacts skin, flush with water for five minutes (page 37). Increase a low idle speed; a faulty alternator is dealer work.
Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting p. 202Complete hydraulic system does not operate with no response from remote valves or hitch
Stop the engine and relieve pressure before opening any line, and search for leaks with cardboard or paper, never your hand (page 99). Check the oil level and fill the system. Replace a restricted hydraulic filter: 157 mm diameter on standard systems, 197 mm on MegaFlow systems (page 175). Clean the charge pump suction screen. If it still won't work, see your dealer as page 203 directs.
Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting p. 203Three-point hitch does not move or fully raise when the control lever is moved
Capture the hitch so it is back in phase with the control lever, and set the work/raise switch to the work position. Check the area beneath the implement before it lowers (page 89). Reduce excessive load on the hitch and adjust the upper height limit control following page 204. A continually flashing hitch status light or faulty position sensor means checking fault codes and calling your dealer.
Manual Section: 3-Point Hitch Troubleshooting p. 204Tractor won't move after starting with F, R, P, U or d flashing
Return the shift control lever to neutral and release the parking brake; the transmission was operated out of sequence, per page 201. If inching pedal control is poor, recalibrate transmission clutches F1, F2 and R. For low transmission oil pressure, fill the system with oil and replace a clogged transmission oil filter. A displayed fault code means contacting your dealer before heading back to the field.
Manual Section: Transmission Troubleshooting p. 201Frequently Asked Questions
How can I reset fault codes on a New Holland G-series tractor?
Fault codes can be temporarily cleared to return to normal operation by holding the START/STOP switch for three seconds. When the key switch is turned to off and the tractor is restarted, the fault code(s) will be redisplayed. See page 71 for the full procedure. p. 71
What are the engine oil and filter replacement specifications for the New Holland G170, G190, G210, G240?
The engine oil capacity including the filter is 4.6 imperial gallons (21 litres). When installing the new filter, turn it until the sealing ring contacts the mounting surface, then tighten an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn. p. 161
What are the replacement specifications for the hydraulic oil filter on the New Holland G170, G190, G210, G240?
The hydraulic system uses two different filter sizes. The standard hydraulic system requires a 4-inch (157 mm) diameter filter, while the MegaFlow and MegaFlow ready hydraulic systems require a 5-inch (197 mm) diameter filter. p. 175
What is the correct valve clearance for the engine on the New Holland G170, G190, G210, G240?
The engine valve clearance should be checked with the engine cold. The intake clearance is 0.014 - 0.018 inches (0.36 - 0.46 mm) and the exhaust clearance is 0.017 - 0.021 inches (0.43 - 0.53 mm). p. 177
What is the torque specification for the rear disc to hub bolts on the New Holland G170, G190, G210, G240?
The rear disc to hub bolts must be torqued to 680 lbf. ft. (918 Nm). This should be done in 50 lbf. ft. (68 Nm) increments using a diagonal pattern. p. 133
