New Holland T1010, T1030, 230GM Common Problems This Manual Covers

New Holland T1010 T1030 engine shuts off about two seconds after the operator leaves the seat

Move the range lever to NEUTRAL before leaving the seat with the engine running, as the operator presence chart on page 32 requires. Check the PTO selector: in REAR PTO the engine keeps running, but MID PTO or MID/Rear PTO shuts it down in about two seconds. Always restart from the operator's seat, never standing beside the tractor (page 32).

Manual Section: Operator Presence System Operation p. 32
Battery discharged after the engine stops with warning lights left on and key not turned off

Turn the key switch fully OFF after every shutdown. Page 33 warns that the warning lights otherwise drain the battery. To jump start, shield your eyes, connect positive to positive, then connect the auxiliary negative to the tractor starter ground terminal. Wear eye and skin protection and keep sparks away from battery gases. Start only from the operator's seat and crank no more than 30 seconds (page 32). A replacement battery is 51BCI/450 CCA (page 127).

Manual Section: Starting the Tractor with Jumper Cables p. 33
Mower deck with loose blade fasteners or grass buildup under the deck has excessive vibration

Shut off the engine, disengage all drives, and lower attachments before working on the deck (page 56). Clean grass buildup from the underside, then re-torque the blade retaining bolts to 98 to 118 N·m per page 114. Balance the blades and replace broken blades in sets, as the chart on page 119 lists. Inspect blade retainer bolts and spindle nuts daily (page 95).

Manual Section: Mower Deck Troubleshooting p. 119
Mower deck gearbox overheating or leaking oil from the seal area during mowing

Shut off the engine and disengage all drives first (page 56). Check the gearbox lubricant and fill to the oil level plug, following the chart on page 119. Clean debris off the deck top around the gearbox. If it leaks, drain oil to the correct level when overfilled and re-torque loose bolts. A damaged oil seal or cracked housing needs replacement. If the problem cannot be easily solved, contact your New Holland dealer.

Manual Section: Mower Deck Troubleshooting p. 119
Mower deck not cutting clean and leaving streaking or windrow conditions in the swath

With the engine shut off and drives disengaged (page 56), inspect the blades. Sharpen or replace dull ones and confirm none are installed upside down (page 119). Mow at full throttle for blade RPM and reduce ground speed. Check that the deck is not lower at the rear than the front using the cutting height adjustments. Clean buildup from the underside and let wet grass dry before cutting (page 120).

Manual Section: Mower Deck Troubleshooting p. 120
Mower deck loads the tractor down while mowing at too fast a ground speed

Set the hand throttle to the full throttle position and reduce ground speed, following the chart on page 120. Shut off the engine and disengage all drives (page 56), then clean grass buildup from under the deck. If loading continues, check for gearbox wear or driveline damage. Page 119 says to contact your New Holland Service Repair Dealer when a problem cannot be easily solved.
