New Holland TD75F cranks slowly or starter will not engage at all when engine is hot

Test battery voltage first: you need a full 12 V with at least 70 percent charge before condemning the starter. Bench test the starter motor; no-load current draw must not exceed 60 A. Check armature shaft end play against the 0.5 to 0.8 mm limit on page 440, then clean the ground strap and solenoid connections.

Engine hard to start, runs rough with excessive smoke and low power under load

Check the engine troubleshooting chart starting before pulling anything apart. Replace the fuel filter, then bleed air from the Bosch injection pump lines. Pull the injectors and pop-test them; opening pressure must hold 248 to 272 bar (page 20). Torque the injector retaining nuts to 25 Nm on reassembly (page 32).

Engine overheats and loses coolant during field work, temperature climbs under heavy draft loads

Verify coolant level cold, then check the fan and coolant pump drive belt: deflection should be 10 to 11 mm under 78 to 98 N load, per page 77. Retension at the alternator and torque the tensioner nut to 55 Nm. Blow chaff out of the radiator core with compressed air and test the thermostat.

Transmission and rear end oil seeping at housing joints, bolts keep working loose

Torque the bolts securing the clutch and reverser casing to the engine to 98 Nm, using the chart on page 159. Check the sleeve cover retaining nuts at 17 Nm while you're there. Clean the seep area with degreaser, replace any stretched bolts, and recheck torque after the first day back in the field.

Front differential grinding and vibration with four wheel drive engaged, gets louder under load

Split the front axle and inspect the crown wheel fasteners immediately; a loose bolt will jam the differential. Torque the ring gear capscrews to 113 Nm and the differential cage support cap bolts to 113 Nm, per page 208. Measure clearance between the differential pinions and their pins: 0.080 to 0.122 mm is serviceable, per page 207.
