From Synchro Command shifting to rear PTO work to electronic draft control, this 272 page New Holland TM7010-TM7040 series operator manual PDF walks all eight tractor variants, E models included, through operation, lubrication, and fault finding. Fault finding tables cover the engine, both transmissions, the hydraulics, three-point linkage, brakes, and cab with causes and corrections side by side. A lubrication and maintenance chart schedules every job from the 10 hour daily checks through the 1200 hour service, and the specifications section closes the book with weights, fluid capacities, and lubricant grades. Before hooking up stationary auxiliary equipment, remember the rear axle gives up 35 litres at most, and your dipstick notches span exactly 3.0 litres of engine oil. Field time lost to a parked tractor never comes back. Bought once, this bookmarked, text searchable PDF is yours to keep for as long as you run these tractors.

New Holland TM7010–TM7040 Common Problems This Manual Covers

New Holland TM7040 three-point hitch raises fine but lowers very slowly with a mounted implement

Check the drop rate control knob and turn it toward fast, then cycle the linkage. Verify rear axle oil level at the sight glass and top up if low. Nominal system pressure is 190 bar per the specifications on page 256; if the linkage still drops slowly with the knob wide open, have your dealer check the lift control valve.

Manual Section: Hydraulic Lift (Three-Point Linkage) Troubleshooting
Brake pedal feels spongy and the brake circuit warning light stays on after startup

Check the brake fluid reservoir level before the next road trip; the reservoir holds only 0.378 litres, so a small leak can drain it fast. Top up with the fluid grade listed in the lubrication chart. If the pedal stays spongy or the warning returns, park the tractor and have your dealer inspect the brake circuit.

Manual Section: Brakes Troubleshooting
Engine hard to start, runs rough then stalls like it is running out of fuel

Check the fuel level first; the main tank holds 27.0 litres, and running low on slopes can pull air into the pickup. Inspect the suction line at the tank for cracks that let air into the system. Drain water from the fuel filter, then follow the engine fault finding tables starting on page 232 if hard starting continues.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 232
Remote hydraulic cylinders move slowly or the loader tips weakly when working on the move

Check the rear axle oil level before blaming the remote valves; big cylinders pull oil out of the transmission sump. Limit oil drawn by remote equipment to 20 litres when working on the move, per the table on page 122, and never add more than 4 litres above the FULL mark. Recheck cylinder speed after correcting the level.

Manual Section: Hydraulics Troubleshooting
Temperature gauge climbs into the red during heavy fieldwork on hot days

Check coolant level when the engine is cold and inspect the radiator cap seal; the cap must hold 1.0 bar per the specifications on page 255. Clean chaff and dust from the radiator and grille screens daily during harvest. If the gauge still climbs, work through the overheating checks in the fault finding tables starting on page 232.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 232

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the procedure for calibrating the transmission clutch packs on a Range Command transmission?

Calibration should be performed when transmission oil temperatures are between 20°C and 50°C (68°F and 122°F). With the engine running at 1200 ± 100 rev/min, press the downshift button to select a clutch pack (A-E) and hold it to begin calibration. The process is complete when the display alternates between the final value and the letter of the clutch pack being calibrated. p. 211

What is the valve clearance on New Holland TM7010, TM7010E, TM7020, TM7020E, TM7030, TM7030E, TM7040, TM7040E engines?

The engine valve clearance for the inlet valves is 0.20 – 0.30 mm (0.008 – 0.012 in.), and for the exhaust valves, it is 0.45 – 0.55 mm (0.018 – 0.022 in.). These measurements must be checked with the engine cold. p. 197

What is the torque specification for the rear disc to hub nuts on a New Holland TM7010 to TM7040 tractor?

The rear disc to hub nuts must be tightened to a torque of 250 Nm (184 lbf.ft). p. 141

How do I bleed the fuel injection system after running out of fuel?

Ensure the tractor has adequate fuel and the battery is fully charged. Crack open the nuts on the high-pressure lines to each of the injectors, then crank the engine on the starter motor to expel the air. Tighten the injector nuts as the engine begins to fire. p. 210

What is the total engine oil capacity including the filter?

The engine oil capacity, including the filter, is 15.00 litres (3.30 gal Imp / 3.96 gal US). p. 258
