Part of the John Deere Repair Manuals.
Technical Manual TM4401 takes the John Deere 2150 and 2255 tractors apart system by system across 733 pages, from the cylinder head and Roto Diesel injection pump through the reverser transmission, power steering and rockshaft. Wiring diagrams in this John Deere 2150 technical manual PDF support electrical diagnosis and connector repair, while hydraulic schematics lay out oil flow from reservoir and cooler to pump, rockshaft and selective control valves. Power train chapters work through the engine clutch, Hi-Lo shift unit, synchronized and collar shift transmissions, differential, final drives, independent and continuous-running PTO and mechanical front wheel drive. Expect 22.6 cm³ (1.38 cu. in.) of hydraulic pump delivery per shaft revolution. Rear wheels torque to the axle at 175 N·m (130 lb-ft). If your job is the rockshaft or a remote cylinder circuit, the schematics show how those valves and lines connect. Bookmarked and text-searchable, the PDF goes wherever your tractor is parked, ready for front axle or brake work.

John Deere 2150, 2255 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Rockshaft lifts the three-point hitch slowly and SCV remote cylinder extends sluggishly
Time the rockshaft lift (79° rotation) against 2 to 2.5 sec at 2000 rpm, and a 2.5 x 8 in. remote cylinder extend against 1.5 to 2.0 sec, per page 611. Test pump delivery against the 47 L/min minimum at 2500 rpm and stand-by pressure of 15800 to 16200 kPa on page 582. Relieve pressure before disconnecting lines and use the auxiliary reservoir drain procedure to avoid hot oil spills (page 604).
Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting p. 611Transmission oil pressure indicator light comes on while the tractor is running
Measure transmission oil pressure with a gauge; the indicator light activation pressure is 900 kPa (130 psi), per page 600. Check that the pressure regulating valve opens at 750 kPa first stage and 1050 kPa second stage. Test transmission pump delivery at 2500 rpm against 54 L/min (no reverser) or 27 L/min (with reverser) on page 582. Relieve pressure before disconnecting lines and tighten all connections before applying pressure (page 604).
Manual Section: Hydraulic System p. 600Independent PTO shaft keeps rotating with the PTO control lever in the disengaged position
Test independent PTO oil pressure and compare it to the specified reading in the Independent PTO section. If pressure is low or the shaft still turns with the control lever disengaged, do not place the PTO shaft under load until the fault is rectified, as page 478 instructs. Run the PTO troubleshooting checks for oil pressure and PTO failure before hooking up an implement.
Manual Section: Independent PTO Troubleshooting p. 478Frequently Asked Questions
How do I adjust the clutch pedal free travel on a John Deere 2150 or 2255?
To adjust the clutch pedal free travel, slacken the hex nut on the clutch rod. Remove the clevis pin and turn the yoke on the clutch rod until the pedal has approximately 25 mm (1 inch) of free travel. Reinstall the clevis pin and tighten the hex nut to secure the yoke. p. 352
How do you fix john Deere 2150 2255 engine will not crank, or cranks but is hard to start?
Check battery output and clean loose or corroded battery connections, then test the main switch, start safety switch, starter solenoid and starter using the page 95 chart. If the engine cranks but won't fire, check for water, dirt or air in the fuel system, a restricted fuel filter, a stuck shut-off knob, or crankcase oil viscosity too high. p. 95
How do you fix engine runs hot under heavy load and coolant temperature keeps climbing past normal?
Check coolant level, then clean the radiator core and side screens and inspect the fan belt for looseness or damage, following the page 96 chart. Test the thermostat, water pump and radiator cap, check for a limed-up cooling system and low crankcase oil level, and don't overload the engine. If the thermostat is questionable, replace it, as page 167 advises. p. 96
How do you fix engine oil pressure reads low and the engine oil pressure indicator light comes on?
Check crankcase oil level and grade first; the crankcase holds 7.0 L with filter, per page 13. Test the oil pressure warning switch and indicator light before condemning internal parts. Then check regulating valve adjustment, and inspect for leakage at internal oil passages, a defective oil pump, or excessive main and connecting rod bearing clearance, as listed on page 97. p. 97
