John Deere 410E Common Problems This Manual Covers
John Deere 410E backhoe engine won't crank or turns over slowly after sitting overnight
Check battery terminals for corrosion and clean the posts with a wire brush. Verify ground cable connections are tight at the frame and engine block. Test the fuses in the panel on page 443; the F1 circuit carries 7.5 amps and F6 carries 30 amps. If the solenoid clicks but the starter won't spin, replace the starter.
Manual Section: Electrical Systems p. 443Hydraulic system loses pressure, boom and dipperstick cycle slowly, bucket curl feels weak
Check hydraulic oil level first; the reservoir holds 37 L (39 qt) per the capacities on page 27. Replace the hydraulic filter element if it is past its interval. Then test standby pressure against the main relief setting of 25 000 kPa (3625 psi) listed on page 25. If pressure still lags, inspect the pump in Section 21.
Manual Section: Main Hydraulic System p. 559Coolant temperature climbs under load and radiator boils over in hot weather
Clean packed debris from the radiator core with low pressure air, blowing from the fan side outward. Check coolant level with the engine cold and top off; the system holds 16 L (17 qt) per page 314. Inspect fan belt tension and the thermostat, then pressure test the cap before condemning the water pump.
Manual Section: Engine Auxiliary Systems p. 314Engine stalls, runs rough, or loses power, then restarts after bleeding the fuel system
Inspect every fuel line from the tank forward for weeping fittings; air gets in wherever fuel seeps out. Replace the fuel filter, then bleed the system until fuel runs clear of bubbles. Keep the tank above a quarter full; it holds 136 L (36 gal) per page 27. Check the tank breather filter for clogging too.
Manual Section: Engine Auxiliary Systems p. 27Black exhaust smoke and power loss with dust streaks inside the air intake tubing
Run the air intake leakage test on page 323, pressurizing the system to 13.8 to 20.7 kPa (2 to 3 psi) and brushing soapy water on every joint. Replace the air filter element if dust has bypassed the seal. Retorque the air cleaner hose clamps to 3.4 N·m (30 lb-in.) per the spec on page 321.
Manual Section: Engine Auxiliary Systems p. 323Frequently Asked Questions
