John Deere 8245R-8400R Common Problems This Manual Covers
DEF pump failure - DEF temperature climbing past 200 degrees with code 43666 active, tractor headed for derate.
Once the DEF supply module is condemned, the Engine section walks through removing the pump and dosing hardware, inspecting supply and return lines for contamination, and installing and priming the new unit so it does not fail again.

The Drive Train and MFWD section covers PTO clutch removal, disassembly and inspection so you can measure plate wear, find a leaking piston seal or broken return spring, and reassemble the pack in the correct order.

My 8345R threw code 43666 and DEF temp is reading over 200 degrees. Will this manual help me fix the DEF pump?
This is the repair side of that job. Once you or a diagnostic manual has condemned the DEF supply module, the Engine section covers removing the pump and dosing components, inspecting lines and fittings, and installing the replacement correctly. Chasing the code itself and testing sensors belongs to the separate Diagnosis manual, so plan on both if you are starting from a warning light.
Does this cover the IVT, or only the PowerShift boxes?
All three. The Transmissions section has full removal, disassembly, inspection and reassembly procedures for the IVT, the e23, and the 16-speed PowerShift. That matters because splitting an 8R and opening any of these boxes is not a job you want to improvise - clutch pack order, seal orientation and reassembly sequence come straight out of this book.
The PTO on my 8320R will not engage cleanly, or drags when it should be off. Is that in here?
Yes, on the mechanical side. The Drive Train section covers PTO clutch removal, disassembly and inspection, so you can find worn plates, a leaking piston seal, or damaged linkage and put it back together right. If the cause turns out to be electrical or a control fault, the harness repair procedures in the Electrical section plus the Diagnosis manual finish the picture.
Steering has gone hard and jerky. Where do I start in this manual?
Start in the Hydraulics, Brakes and Steering section. It covers the steering valve, cylinders and related hydraulic components with removal, inspection and reassembly steps. On MFWD and ILS front axles, worn axle and suspension components can also masquerade as steering trouble, and the Drive Train and MFWD section covers tearing those down and checking them.
Is this a PDF I can use in the shop, and does one manual really cover all seven models?
Yes. The 8245R through 8400R share the same platform, so Deere documents them in one repair manual with model-specific differences called out where they exist. As a PDF you can search it, print the pages you need for a job, and keep grease off the rest.
