John Deere 326D-333D Series Common Problems This Manual Covers

John Deere 326D hydraulic hose weeping at fittings, boom drifts down, oil film under machine

Shut down, drop the boom, and inspect every hose for fraying, rubbing, or wet fittings; the schedule on page 9 calls for hose inspection at least once per year. Replace damaged assemblies, never patch them. Torque 1/2 inch straight thread fittings to 49 N-m (36 lb-ft) per page 25, then cycle the boom and recheck.

Manual Section: General Information p. 9
Steering feels loose and erratic, machine wanders at travel speed, hard to hold a straight line

Check the dampener rod for leakage and measure retraction and extension force following the inspection procedure on page 71. If the rod moves with no resistance or the seal weeps oil, replace the dampener; there is no rebuild. Torque the new mounting hardware to 40 N·m (30 lb-ft) and test drive at full travel speed.

Manual Section: Steering Dampener Inspection p. 71
Hydrostatic drive sluggish or weak on one side, slow response when feathering the controls

Test charge pressure at operating temperature before condemning the pump. On 326D and 328D machines the charge pressure relief valve must hold a minimum of 1900 kPa, per the spec on page 81. If pressure falls short, replace the charge filter first and recheck; a starved charge circuit mimics pump failure.

Manual Section: Transmission p. 81
Quick-Tach lock levers won't fully engage, bucket rocks on coupler, attachment sits loose

Verify the attachment lock plate height before blaming the coupler; aftermarket buckets often have the bottom plate welded too low. Shim the lock plate until both levers seat fully with no rocking. Inspect the coupler pivot pins while you are in there and torque the bucket cylinder pin cap screw to 73 N·m (54 lb-ft) per page 291.

Manual Section: Loader p. 291
Rubber tracks slipping and wearing fast, machine loses traction on slopes and wet ground

Measure the track lug height; minimum is 5 mm per the wear spec on page 41. Below that, the tracks will not bite and replacement is the only fix. While the machine is blocked up, spin each track roller by hand, check for oil leaks, and confirm roller-to-frame cap screws are torqued to 644 N·m per page 43.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I adjust the track tension on a John Deere 329D skid steer?

To adjust the track tension, refer to the detailed procedure in "Check and Adjust Track Tension. (Group 9020-25.)". For releasing tension, the manual instructs to "Loosen track adjuster valve 1-2 turns to discharge grease from track adjuster cylinder" to allow the track to sag completely, as found on page 41. p. 41

What are the torque specifications for the engine mount cap screws on a John Deere 332D?

The torque specification for the Engine Mount Cap Screw is 320 N·m (235 lb-ft). This information is found in the "Engine Remove and Install" section, specifically when installing and torquing the engine mount cap screws. p. 188

How do I relieve the hydraulic system and what is the charge relief setting on a John Deere 332D?

To relieve hydraulic system pressure, you should follow the procedure outlined in "Hydraulic System Pressure Release. (Group 9025-25.)". For the 332D, the minimum charge pressure relief valve pressure is specified as 2200 kPa (22 bar, 319 psi). p. 81

What are the inspection and replacement guidelines for hydraulic hose assemblies?

Hydraulic hoses should be inspected periodically, at least once per year, for leakage, kinking, cuts, cracks, abrasion, blisters, corrosion, or exposed wire braid. Any worn or damaged hose assemblies must be replaced immediately with John Deere approved replacement parts. p. 9

What are the inspection and replacement guidelines for electrical wiring and connectors?

Electrical wiring and connectors should be examined frequently for damage. If abrasion or wear occurs, they must be replaced immediately. This is crucial for maintaining machine safety and function. p. 10

How quickly can I access this manual after buying?

Immediate download of the complete 364-page searchable Technical Manual. Access it on any device, from a laptop at your desk to a phone in the field.
