Part of the John Deere Repair Manuals.
This is the factory Diagnostic Technical Manual for the John Deere 5076E, 5076EL, 5082E, 5090E, 5090EL and 5090EH utility tractors, 2020-2024. These are electronic Final Tier 4 machines, and this book is built for chasing problems on them: full diagnostic trouble code lists for the CCU, ICC and PTR control units with retrieval and clearing steps, observable-symptom charts, wiring schematics with harness routing, and real test numbers for hydraulics, steering, brakes, SyncShuttle and PowrReverser transmissions, MFWD and differential lock. Every test spec is printed, down to pump flow rates and relief valve pressures. One thing to know up front: this is the Diagnosis and Tests book, not the component teardown manual. You find the fault here, then fix it.

John Deere 5076E, 5076EL, 5082E, 5090E, 5090EL, 5090EH Common Problems This Manual Covers
Engine cranks slowly or will not start
Start in the System Diagnosis section under starting and charging. It steps through battery voltage, starter circuit and charging tests in order, then hands off to the Fuel, Air, Exhaust and Cooling section if the cranking checks out but the engine still will not light off on fuel.
Manual Section: System DiagnosisHydraulic system slow, weak, or hitch will not lift a load
The Hydraulics section gives the warm-up spec of 38-43°C, the pump flow test at 2400 rpm on SCV tractors, and the 18995-19685 kPa (2755-2855 psi) relief pressure checks for both the main and rockshaft load sense valves. It also covers the rockshaft feedback linkage setting, which cures a lot of misdiagnosed lift complaints.
Manual Section: HydraulicsPowrReverser jerky, slipping, or dead in forward or reverse
Pull the PTR codes first using the Diagnostic Trouble Codes section, then follow the PowrReverser Transmission section for pressure tests, clutch adjustments and the transmission schematics. Between the codes and the pressure numbers you can separate an electrical fault from worn clutch packs without splitting the tractor on a hunch.
Manual Section: PowrReverser TransmissionEngine running hot or overheating under load
The Fuel, Air, Exhaust and Cooling section covers cooling system diagnosis for these Final Tier 4 engines, working through coolant condition, radiator airflow and water pump checks, and it ties into the Observable Symptoms charts so a plugged screen or slipping fan does not get misread as a head gasket.
Manual Section: Fuel, Air, Exhaust and CoolingFrequently Asked Questions
My 5090E is throwing codes on the dash. Does this manual actually decode them?
Yes, and that is the main reason to buy it. It carries the full diagnostic trouble code listings for the CCU (engine controller), ICC (instrument cluster) and PTR (PowrReverser) control units, plus the procedures for pulling codes and clearing them after the repair. These 5E tractors are CAN-bus machines, so guessing at a code without the book usually means throwing parts at it.
The hydraulics got slow and weak. Can I test the pump before I buy one?
That is exactly what the Hydraulics section is for. It walks you through the pump flow test with real pass/fail numbers: on tractors without SCV you should see 47.6 - 60 Lpm (12.6 - 16 gpm) at 10345 kPa (1500 psi) test pressure, warmed to 38-43°C (100-110F). It also gives the main relief spec of 18995-19685 kPa (2755-2855 psi), so you can tell a tired pump from a stuck relief valve before spending pump money.
Does it cover both the SyncShuttle and the PowrReverser transmission?
Yes, each gets its own section. The synchronized SyncShuttle side has tests and diagnosis, and the PowrReverser side has tests, adjustments and its own hydraulic/electrical schematics, plus the PTR trouble codes in the DTC section. If the shuttle is jerky, slipping or dead in one direction, the book routes you to the right test instead of a teardown.
Are the electrical wiring diagrams in here? My dealer wants shop rates just to trace a wire.
The Electrical section has the wiring schematics and harness information for these models, and the Control Units section covers CCU, ICC and instrument cluster diagnosis on top of that. Most no-crank, gauge and sensor complaints on these tractors end up being a connector or a chafed harness, and you cannot trace that without the diagrams.
Is this the full repair manual with rebuild procedures?
No, and it is worth being straight about. This is the Diagnosis and Tests manual: symptoms, trouble codes, system tests, pressures, flows and adjustments to find the fault. Component teardown and rebuild steps live in the separate Repair technical manual. For most owners the diagnostic book earns its keep first, because knowing which part failed is the expensive question.
