It walks you through actual wrench work: pulling the complete engine, splitting into the SyncroPlus and PowrReverser transmissions, front-wheel drive clutch, differential and final drives (both with 3D animations), rear PTO, hydrostatic steering, wet brakes, the full hydraulic system with hitch and SCVs, plus ECU removal, connectors, charging and starting circuits. Special tools are listed, including the dealer-fabricated ones. Removal, installation, adjustment and specs, written the way Deere dealer techs use it.

John Deere 6225, 6325, 6425, 6525 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Battery not charging, or the charge warning light stays on

Before pulling the alternator pulley, relieve drive belt tension and disconnect the battery negative cable per the procedure in this section. On reassembly, torque the pulley on the alternator shaft to 80 N.m (60 lb-ft) so it does not work loose and start the charge light flickering again.

Manual Section: Electrical System - Starting Motor Circuit p. 226
Engine runs hot or keeps losing coolant after a top-off

These tractors run two coolant circuits that stay almost fully separated, so coolant loss after a top-off is often the connect/disconnect control left in the wrong position rather than a leak. The manual walks the bleed procedure and specs the drain plug torque at 4 to 5 N.m (3 to 3.7 lb-ft) so you do not crack it retightening.

Manual Section: Fuel, Air Intake, Cooling and Exhaust Systems - Cooling System p. 154
Clutch pedal sits too high or too low, or the clutch drags or slips

The pedal free-play adjustment has a real printed number: distance (a) at the lower stop should be 51 mm +/- 1 mm (2 in. +/- 0.04 in.), set with the adjusting screw and locked with the lock nut torqued to 15 N.m (11 lb-ft). Get this wrong and the clutch either drags or never fully engages.

Manual Section: Transmission (SyncroPlus) - Perma Clutch II Module p. 292
Rear brakes drag, feel spongy, or will not fully release

The manual gives an actual leak-test spec for the brake pistons: pressurize to 300 kPa (3 bar, 44 psi) and watch the gauge. A drop of more than 10 kPa (0.1 bar, 1.5 psi) in 10 seconds means the piston O-rings need replacing rather than another bleed and hope.

Manual Section: Steering and Brakes - Rear Wheel Brakes p. 909

Frequently Asked Questions

What models and edition does this Repair Manual cover?

This is the John Deere TM401019 Repair Manual (June 2010) for the 6225, 6325, 6425 and 6525 tractors, Europe edition, exactly the model range and edition printed on the cover and Foreword. p. 5

Does this manual include wiring diagrams or electrical schematics?

No. It covers the electrical system's connectors, charging circuit, starting motor circuit and control unit removal and installation, but there are no wiring schematics in this Repair Manual. p. 169

Does it cover diagnostic trouble codes or how to reset a fault code?

No, this Repair Manual repeatedly points to a separate Diagnostic Manual for trouble codes and code based diagnosis. What is here is the hands on repair side: teardown, rebuild and torque specs. p. 136

Does it include full engine overhaul specs, like head-bolt torque?

It covers removing and installing the whole engine (Section 20), plus fuel, cooling and exhaust service. Internal engine teardown specs live in the separate PowerTech engine manual, not here. p. 91

What engines power these tractors?

6225, 6325 and 6425 share a turbocharged, intercooled 4.5 L 4-cylinder diesel (94 to 115 hp). The 6525 steps up to a turbocharged intercooled 6.8 L 6-cylinder diesel (120 hp). p. 33
