Work through the hydrostatic steering diagnostics in the Steering and Brakes section: check steering circuit pressure, test the steering valve and priority valve, and inspect for internal leakage before replacing the steering motor. My 8R steering went stiff and I had to slam the brakes and crank the wheel to get it back. Does this manual help me find the cause?
Yes. The Steering and Brakes section walks through the hydrostatic steering circuit with test procedures for the steering valve, priority valve and lines, so you can trace whether it is a hydraulic supply problem, a valve sticking or a sensor issue instead of guessing. That brake-slam reset trick masks the fault, it does not fix it.
Does it cover both the PowerShift and the IVT, or do I need two manuals?
Both are in this one manual. There are separate repair sections for the 16-speed PowerShift and the AutoPowr/IVT continuously variable transmission, including clutch pack teardown and control valve service. Whichever transmission your tractor left the factory with, the procedures are here.
Engine warning light is on with reduced power. Can I diagnose that myself with this manual?
The Engine, Fuel and Cooling section covers the air intake system including the restriction sensor, plus fuel filters and injection components, which are the usual suspects for derate on these engines. Combined with the Electrical System section on control units and sensors, you can test the circuit before throwing parts at it.
Is this a real workshop manual or just an operator's book?
This is the repair/technical manual. It has component removal and installation, disassembly, inspection specs, torque values and special tool references for every major system. It is the same type of document a dealer technician works from, not the owner's manual that came in the cab.
My tractor has the ILS front axle. Is that covered or only the standard MFWD?
Both. The Drive Systems section covers the 1300 and 1500 series MFWD axles and has dedicated coverage for the Independent Link Suspension axle, including the suspension components and driveline. Differentials and drive shafts are in the same section.
